Role-playing is probably the oldest game genre around. That’s why it is evident that the number of RPG games have to be outstanding. The best part is we live in a world where we can experience the greatest this genre has to offer right in the comfort of our homes. A lot of these games are already available on home gaming consoles.

However, there are a few gems that are still missing from the pack. Some of these missing titles arePCorMacexclusives, and despite being critically acclaimed are yet to see the daylight on the modern consoles.
11CAN’T: Balrum
Balrumis an attempt to revive the classic RPG feel in the modern era. The game is 2-D isometric likeDiablo1 & 2. To the fans of the genre, it provides highly nostalgic visuals and gameplay. Released in 2016,Balrumis created by the Balcony Team, which is essentially a team of two indie developers.
The game initially started as a student project but soon became a full-fleshed release that is now available to download on Steam. Seeing how it was a student project, it is highly unlikely that the game will ever show up on a console.
10WE WISH: Tyranny
Created by Obsidian Entertainment,Tyrannyis a classic RPG. The game is like a spiritual successor to the critically acclaimedPillars of Eternity.It is not a direct sequel in terms of story but shares a lot of similar gameplay and visual elements.
At launch, the game was not as popular asPillars of Eternity, and the reviews were not as high either. But it is still one of the better RPGs of this generation. Knowing howPillars of EternityandPillars of Eternity 2are on the consoles, Tyranny should also have been a part of the pack.
9CAN’T: Arcanum: Of Steamworks And Magick Obscura
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscurais anotherclassic-RPGfor Microsoft Windows. The game received great reviews at its launch averaging around 8.5 out of 10. This begs the question of why it never made its way on the consoles, and the answer is pretty simple.

Both the developers and the publishers of the game are no longer around, at least not in their original form, which is why it will be challenging to release it on the console. The game, however, is worth playing if one wants to try it on the PC.
8WE WISH: Star Wars: The Old Republic

It is one of those classics that should be a part of the console game library. The game is an MMORPG and should fit right into the multiplayer game culture we have now. But, the fact that it is not is a huge opportunity missed.

Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusaderis another game that was released in the early 2000s. The game is an action-RPG exclusively released on Microsoft Windows. Lionheart has in-game mechanics, which are very similar to the SPECIAL system from theFalloutgames.
With both singleplayer andmultiplayer, this game is a complete package. However, it will probably never be released on the consoles as the developer and publisher of the game are defunct. The game is still worth playing on the PC for the fans for RPGs, as it does a lot of right things to the genre.

Legend of Grimrockis a dungeon crawler RPG released by the developer Almost Human. The game was first published in 2012 and became very famous for its unique gameplay. It plays and controls like a classic dungeon crawler, but utilizes complete 3-D environments.

Dungeon Siegeis another action-RPG from the early 2000s. The game is a must-play for the fans of the genre as it employs new concepts in the core gameplay. It is one of the first games of this kind to offer players huge areas to explore.
Parts ofDragon Age: Originstook inspiration fromDungeon Siege. The game is reviewed and rated very well by fans, which is why it’s sad to know that it might never make its way on the consoles as the developers of the game have been defunct, like others on this list.

The game was released five years ago and met a very positive response by fans.Shadowrun: Hong Kongis just as beautiful as the promotional image above and has a minimal art style; this is one of those RPGs that can easily be a part of the console library.

3CAN’T: Fallout 1 & Fallout 2: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game
Everybody knows theFalloutseries. Many people like these games and then some people love them even more. Needless to say,Falloutis a cult-classic, and this is where it all began.Fallout1 & 2 are possibly the best fallout games from the lot.
That’s because of the unique post-apocalyptic world of the game, which offers better characters and details than the sequels. Sadly, these games might never see the light of day on consoles as the controls of the originals are a bit whacky for current standards. Bethesda will probably have to send specific controllers with each copy if they chose to release the classics on the consoles.
