When a slasher movie is particularly great, whether it’s intelligent or has an awesome villain, fans can’t help but want a sequel. Even though the quality of the sequel might not be as high, it’s still tempting to want to see more of the main character or the setting.

In some cases, though, a movie has a perfect story from start to finish, and fans can agree that adding another film would be unnecessary. Sometimes, it just doesn’t make sense to continue the story. There are many slasher movies that never got a sequel, from a critically acclaimed anthology film to a few cheesy yet fun 2000s movies.

Valentine 2001 movie

Valentine (2001)

Valentineis afun 2000s slasher movieand it’s definitely a story that doesn’t seem like it needs a sequel. A group of friends named Dorothy (Jessica Capshaw), Kate (Marley Shelton), Paige (Denise Richards), and Shelley (Katherine Heigl) all grew up together, and now that they’re adults, they’re haunted by a person who they bullied in the past.

The movie ties everything together well, and when fans find out who the killer is, there is a logical and practical explanation. If there was a second movie, it might have been overkill (no pun intended) because there wouldn’t be a lot of story left to work with. There are many slashers from the ’90s and 2000s with sequels andValentinefeels unique because there’s just one film. It also makes the reveal more interesting since a second movie won’t change anything that happened or add a more complicated layer to the backstory.

Trick ‘r Treat Sam

Trick ‘r Treat (2007)

Horror fans prefer to watchTrick ‘Treatand the monster Samaround Halloween since, besidesHalloweenfrom 1978, there isn’t another film that embodies this October holiday quite so well. Since it’s an anthology film of tales that are connected, it would definitely have been possible to make a sequel, since there would be so many different Halloween-themed scary stories to tell.

Even though a second movie didn’t happen,Trick ‘r Treatis still a great and satisfying watch. The story of a bus driver being targeted by the ghosts of kids who he killed back in the day when there was an epic bus crash is especially chilling.

Brittany Murphy as Jody and Keram Malicki-Sánchez as Timmy in Cherry Falls

Cherry Falls (2000)

Cherry Fallsis one of the mostunderrated teen horror moviesand it might have been forgotten in the midst of so many other slasher flicks. Brittany Murphy played Jody, a high school girl who learns that a killer is murdering virgins in her small town. The movie does have a corny tone, but it’s intelligent and interesting.

It makes sense thatCherry Fallsis a stand-alone slasher film as the story is self-contained within its run time. Jody learns who she can trust and who she can’t, and by the end, the killer is revealed, along with the reason why they have been going after teenagers who haven’t yet had sex. It’s hard to know what a sequel could focus on, and if it was simply more of the same, that wouldn’t be very scary or fun.

Characters in a scene from The Final Girls

The Final Girls (2015)

There are somemovies that are both slashers and supernatural stories, andThe Final Girlsdefinitely fits into that category. Max Cartwright (Taissa Farmiga) is a perfecthorror movie main character: she misses her mother, Amanda (Malin Ackerman), who was a famous horror movie actress and who passed away. When Max and her friends go see her mom’s filmCamp Bloodbath, the movie theater catches on fire, and Max cuts into the screen and they walk into the movie.

The movie is visually exciting and unique, and Max and her pals soon realize that they are in trouble and that they could be killed. The ending is brilliant too, as Max is in the hospital and she figures out that she and the other characters are inCamp Bloodbath 2: Cruel Summer, which is a smart touch.

Amber Heard as Mandy Lane in All The Boys Love Mandy Lane

All The Boys Love Mandy Lane (2006)

Fans anticipate that they can watchAmber Heard inAquaman 2, and Heard also starred in the 2006 slasherAll The Boys Love Mandy Lane. This is a stand-alone film that isn’t part of aslasher movie franchise. When the movie opens, Mandy’s classmates want her to hang out with them, and when she gets there, there’s a killer targeting everyone.

The movie plays with who can be trusted and who can’t, as audiences begin to wonder if Mandy is really as innocent as she seems to be. The movie has a perfect twist ending and while there could technically be a sequel, as Mandy survives and fans would be interested to follow her story, it works well that there’s just one well-done film.
