When it comes to horror developers, few are as renowned as Frictional Games, the minds behind theAmnesiaseries andSoma. The former especially established the studio as one of the most reputable players in the genre, withAmnesiaoften being referred to as a key innovator behind the brand of first-person horror often favored by many games today. AfterSoma, the studio remained somewhat quiet about future projects, however, it seems it’s now gearing up for its next big release.

Unveiling aYouTubeteaser for a game titled ‘I am Tasi,‘it appears Frictional Games will return with a brand new horror game at some point in the near future. The teaser itself is incredibly cryptic, only featuring some dialogue and a short glimpse at a brand new environment. Regardless, it does seem to show what the atmosphere and tone of the dev’s newest game will attempt to achieve.

Clocking in at a brief 27 seconds, the teaser begins with a voice-over from a distressed girl who claims she needs to find a mysterious man and make him “understand.” She then reveals that her name is Tasi, before strangely having to reassure herself that she is still herself. Her eyes then open, revealing a large, desolate desert that’s caught in a violent sandstorm. Across from her, there’s a large blue hole emitting a blue light source, clearly implicating that this will followFrictional Games’ love of terrifying high-concept horror.

Although it’s not explicitly stated, the trailer appears to hint that the game will once again return to Frictional Games’ signature sanity game mechanic, with Tasi’s mental state seeming to be somewhat fractured. For those who never playedAmnesia, one of the key elements in the game saw players avoid darkness or looking at the title’sterrifying monstersdue to how it’d affect the mental state of the game’s protagonist. As it drains, aspects of the environment would change to encompass their mental stability. Although Frictional Games wasn’t the first developer to use the idea, it was one of the first to truly get it right, with many games going on to use a version of the sanity meter similar to that ofAmnesia.

I Am Tasi’seeriedesert setting will also surely be an interesting new world for Frictional Games to play around in. WithSoma’sterrifying underwater laboratoriesandAmnesia’sominous twisted castles, the team clearly excel in unique locations, soI Am Tasi’sunusual setting will likely make for another exceptional experience.

I Am Tasiis in development now for unknown consoles.
