Animal Crossing: New Horizonsbrings players to their own island with a rotating roster of anthropomorphic animal villagers. Despite the fictional universe, players can catch numerous types of real-life insects and fish as they make their way through a playthrough. This balance of reality mixed in with fiction was recently shown off in anAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsplayer’s post detailing an interesting fact about Horseshoe Crabs.
Animal Crossing: New Horizonswas released in March 2020 and is the fifth major installment in theAnimal Crossingseries. One of the ways in which players can earn money is through capturing the variety of bugs and fish that show up on the island. On top of their sale, unique creatures can be turned into themuseum curator inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons,Blathers and displayed in an exhibit.

This post comes from u/tunneloflover, and it shows a small sign within the museum on their island. Players ofAnimal Crossing: New Horizonswill know that this can be found in the fish section in the right wing of the building. Pictured by the river fish section is a small signpost that shows a Horseshoe Crab alongside some writing and symbols. U/tunneloflover points out here in their post that there is an actual deeper meaning in this cosmetic item. On the left side of the sign there is a syringe filled with some form of blue liquid. This is a reference to the actual animal’s interesting blue blood. On top of this odd coloration, Horseshoe Crab blood has a protein that is used by pharmaceutical manufacturers to test their products. This sign must therefore be a reference to this piece of Horseshoe Crab trivia.
This player catch is an impressive one to say the least. Normally,Animal Crossing: New Horizonsplayers have to check in with Blathersat the museum if they are looking for some interesting facts about a specific species. In this case, the scenery within the museum itself hints strongly at what is unique about this animal.
Players who have spent agreat deal of time in the world ofAnimal Crossing: New Horizonswill likely remember the quick piece of text associated with the different species within the game. With just one single piece of writing per fish and per insect, the game’s quick text can become repetitive, leaving some players frustrated.
Then again, these quick messages that players get when they catch something are relatively easy to ignore if they areirritating players inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. The style of the game lends itself to extended play time and so even rotating dialogue options would likely become repetitive as well. Either way, players should be interested to note this interesting piece of decoration in the game.
