Anya Taylor-Joy, who’s set to star in theFuriosaspin-off centered around the character of the same name, revealed that she received some advice from Nicholas Hoult, her co-star inThe Menu. Hoult seemed certain that the actress has what it takes to portray Furiosa.

Furiosatells the tale of the titular heroine who was played by Charlize Theron inMad Max: Fury Road. Director George Miller has already said there will be one keydifference betweenFuriosaandMad Max: Fury Road. While the latter tells a story in a short period relative to Max’s (Tom Hardy) life,Furiosawill chronicle 15 years of its hero’s life. This will presumably lead to where the character is inMad Mad: Fury Road.

During an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, Taylor-Joy recounted some words of encouragement Hoult passed on to her while they filmedThe Menu. As fans may recall,Hoult is also an alum of theMad Maxfranchise, appearing inMad Max: Fury Roadas Nux the War Boy. Laughing at the question about being given a “crash course on the George Miller experience,” Taylor-Joy responded, “He was just so beautifully supportive. We really love each other. We’ve become brilliant friends, and because he knew that I was going to do [Furiosa] almost immediately afterwards, his only words of advice were, ‘You’ve got this. You’re going to be fine. Trust me, it’s going to be great, and I, for one, am really excited to see it.’ So having that voice of reassurance and support was just really helpful.”

The firstFuriosaset photosalready promise a return to the classicMad Maxsetting and suggest Taylor-Joy’s rendition of Furiosa will be in for a long road ahead. In trueMad Maxfashion, the photos offer a glimpse at a biker gang in a desert wasteland. Though she will undoubtedly be up to the task, it remains to be seen what events led Furiosa to become the character she is inMad Max: Fury Road.

Though fans were disappointed that Theron would not be returning to the role via de-aging technology,Taylor-Joy landed the role of Furiosain theMad Maxprequel by giving a speech that impressed Miller immensely. She may be a young actress, but her filmography shows she’s a talented pick for the role. Though she hasn’t played a role quite like Furiosa just yet, the fact that Miller was so impressed by her audition bodes well for her performance.

ThoughFuriosawas delayed to 2024, it looks like the film is on track for its new opening date. The plot is still heavily under wraps, but it is known that Chris Hemsworth will play an antagonistic role in the prequel.
