Apex Legendsis receiving a 120 FPS update on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S as part of its upcoming new season named Breakout. About to enter its 20th season,Apex Legendswill have some changes in storefor its fifth anniversary. Although the Breakout update won’t come with a new playable Legend, there is still plenty forApexfans to look forward to, namely, the new Mixtape map named Thunderdome. This new playground pays homage toApex Legends' very first launch map, King’s Canyon, as it features a similar type of rocky terrain.

The higher frame rate will come as part ofApex’s Breakout update on February 13and will undoubtedly provide players with a smoother experience inApex’s fast-paced game modes. This 120 FPS boost finally bringsApexup to par with some of its competitors likeCall of Duty,Halo Infinite, andFortnite,which have already been boasting higher frame rates on current-gen consoles for a number of years.

When Is 120 FPS Mode Coming to Apex Legends on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S?

Whether this 120 FPS update will bring more players toApexremains to be seen. There are likely some competitive FPS console players who may have held out on EA’s battle royale shooter for such a mode to be added; perhaps the arrival of 120 FPS will see a slight bump in player numbers. 120 FPS will prove especially helpful in the Mixtape modes, as the smaller maps are usually home to non-stop fast-paced action.

The core playerbase can expect even more changes to keep things fresh on the battlefield in Season 20. A new Legends Upgrade system allowsApex Legends' battle royale playersto select specific upgrades with earned EVO over the course of a match. Additionally, body shields are no longer a lootable item found in the world and instead will upgrade their capacity as players level up each drop.

Now thatApex Legendshas surpassed its five-year anniversary, it’ll be interesting to see how the game continues evolving. There will likely be more maps, modes, and Legends added over the next several years and seasons. For now, though, players can celebrate with the new Thunderdome map, reworked armor system, 120 FPS mode, and more coming toApex Legendson February 13.
