Summary

Baldur’s Gate 3has confirmed a major feature will be included in its delayed Xbox release, as the CRPG will allow for cross-saves between not only PC but also PlayStation 5. Even a week ago, it wasn’t clear ifBaldur’s Gate 3would be coming to Xbox platforms. Larian has since clarified the situation, stating that Xbox Series X/S support forBaldur’s Gate 3will arrive before the end of 2023. And while it will still be a delayed release, Larian Studios will make sureBaldur’s Gate 3players can jump to Xbox with relative ease.

Larian CEO Swen Vincke announced just yesterday thatBaldur’s Gate 3is planned for an Xbox Series X/S release in 2023. He confirmed that an Xbox version of the game has been in development for some time, but appeared to hint at an underlying issue preventing it from launching alongside the PS5 release ofBaldur’s Gate 3. He described how Larian “found a solution” with the team at Xbox, resulting in the Xbox Series S version ofBaldur’s Gate 3launching without split-screen co-op.

Alongside confirmation ofBaldur’s Gate 3launching on Xbox Series X/S in 2023, Larian also confirmed support for cross-saves between PC and Xbox. That would allow fans tostart playingBaldur’s Gate 3on PCand then carry over their save to Xbox when the game arrives. There’s now been confirmation that cross-saves will also be supported between PlayStation 5 and Xbox.

This is a significant feature confirmation, at least for a portion of the Xbox community. Many Xbox players prefer to play games on a console and not on a PC. Xbox would be their preferred platform, but they might have a PS5, too. This feature will allow those console players to startBaldur’s Gate 3on PS5and then shift their save over to Xbox Series X/S when the game becomes available.

Cross-saves may not be important to a majority of game players. Most people picking upBaldur’s Gate 3will start and stay on their preferred platform. There are still those who like to swap platforms day-to-day, and cross-saves can be invaluable to them.Baldur’s Gate 3’s stuttered release makes cross-saves that much more important.

Baldur’s Gate 3having cross-saves is a result of the game’s implementation of the Larian account system. Saves can be uploaded to the cloud and then accessed online via all platforms. The system wasnotably down afterBaldur’s Gate 3’s PC launch, which has led to some worries there could be technical issues down the line. Players won’t know for certain until the PS5 release in September, but any such problems should be solved by the Xbox release before the end of the year.

Baldur’s Gate 3is out now on PC, launches September 6 on PS5, and arrives in 2023 on Xbox Series X/S.
