Mr. Freeze, real name Victor Fries, has been adored by DC fans ever since his debut inBatman#121 back in 1959. This cold criminal was initially introduced as Mr. Zero but was later renamed. Since his introduction over 60 years ago, he has been featured in several films, TV shows, video games, and a multitude of comics, making him one of Batman’s greatest foes.

Over the years, Mr. Freeze has made some iconic video game appearances, especially recently, but which are his most memorable features to note?
8Batman: The Animated Series
Batman: The Animated Serieswas a video game based on the TV series with the very same name, released in 1993 on a multitude of platforms including theSNESand theGame Boy, although the Game Boy edition was the only version not heavily changed.
This is Mr. Freeze’s video game debut, featuring in the levelThe Chill of a Lifetimewhere he partners up withScarecrowto take control of Gotham City.

LikeBatman: The Animated Series,Batman & Robinis a video game based on the movie with the very same title, it was released on thePlayStationback in 1998.

In this game, the player must choose to play as either Batman,Robin, or Batgirl and defeat Poison Ivy, Bane, and, of course, Mr. Freeze before the time runs out; it contains individual missions rather than one big story, one of which has the player apprehend Mr. Freeze after a chain of robberies he had committed.
6Batman: The Enemy Within
Batman: The Enemy Withinis a graphic adventure video game, a sequel toBatman: The Telltale Serieswith its first episode being released in 2017 on a number of platforms, including theXbox OneandPlayStation 4.
In this game, Mr. Freeze is a member of the criminal group ‘the Pact’ in hopes to gain access to a potential cure for his dying wife. The writers did a great job at portraying just how much Victor loves Nora, he puts treating his wife’s disease before absolutely anything else, including his own well-being and despite his overall cool and collected demeanor, he would crumble anytime Nora is even mentioned.
5Injustice 2
Injustice 2is a fighting game released on several platforms includingPlayStation 4andXbox Onein 2017 and is the sequel toInjustice: Gods Among Us. This game, of course, features Mr. Freeze as one of itsmany playable characters.

As always, Mr. Freeze’s storyline follows him searching for a cure for his wife’s terminal illness. However, within the gameplay itself, Mr. Freeze uses a range of technology against his opponents which allows him to utilize an array of icy abilities including ‘cold blast’ and ‘frost field’.
4Batman: Arkham Origins
Batman: Arkham Originsis anaction-adventure gamereleased in 2013 on a number of platforms, including thePlayStation 3andXbox 360, and was developed by WB Games Montreal.
Mr. Freeze isn’t actually a part of the main game but instead a central character in theCold, Cold HeartDLC- a story that follows Mr. Freeze’s initial attack on Gotham City after being betrayed by a colleague who promised to help him find a cure for his wife.
3Gotham Knights
Gotham Knightsis an action RPG set in Gotham City released in October 2022 on a number of platforms including thePlayStation 5and theXbox Series X. This game features Mr. Freeze as one of its major antagonists and is his most recent video game appearance.

InGotham Knights, Mr. Freeze has returned to a life of crime as a result of Batman’s disappearance, thus stopping the funds for his research he was given in exchange for staying out of trouble.

Like inBatman: Arkham Origins, Mr. Freeze isn’t involved in the main game, but he is, however, a central character in theSeason of Infamy DLC, more specifically theIn From the Coldmission within it. During this quest, Mr. Freeze’s wife has been captured by the Militia from which both he and Batman must save her.

Batman: Arkham Cityis yet another incredibly influential, multi-award winning, action-adventure game, part of the very same series, developed by Rocksteady, released in 2011 on a number of platforms including the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Perhaps his most iconic video game appearance, Mr. Freeze isn’t necessarily portrayed as a villain inArkham City, but rather an anti-hero. Batman initially saves Mr. Freeze after being kidnapped and tortured by Penguin. Upon returning to the old GCPD building, he creates a cure for Batman which ultimately saves his life. Mr. Freeze does, however, go rogue somewhere along the line, resulting in one of the franchise’s most iconic boss fights.
