With Crystal Dynamics focused on maintaining the Marvel’s Avengers game, some of its prior franchises have been left to the wayside for a bit. This includesThe Legacy of Kain, a complex RPG narrative series that has been radio silent ever since publisher Eidos was acquired by Square Enix. These games all have their fans, with almost every game in the series being available to play through modern ports; all except the game that started it all,Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. This one in particular was never re-released onto modern systems, until recently, thanks tothe GOG storefront.

The originalBlood Omenwas developed by Silicon Knights and published byCrystal Dynamicsin the late-90s as a top-down action adventure that also had RPG elements. There were sequels that followedBlood Omen, with each of these being developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Eidos instead. Once Square Enix entered the picture and acquired Eidos, this created an incredibly complicated IP ownership struggle between the companies. This is one possible reason why it took so long forBlood Omento get a modern PC re-release years after the rest ofThe Legacy of Kainseries did.
