They travel around the U.S. and constantly grapple with whether they should figure out a way to stop eating people or if they can somehow forgive themselves for their base instincts.

When Maren arrives in Columbus, she meets Sully (Mark Rylance), who says that he is also an eater. Maren has been abandoned by her father and she’s terrified of being alone but still spunky and passionate about finding a way to get through this time in her life. Maren meets Lee in a chance encounter in Indiana in a store and they realize that they have a lot in common.

There are someterrifying cannibals in horror movies, and Maren, Lee, and Sully are all scary since they can eat and kill anyone who they want to. ButBones And Allis a different kind of film that is a character study of two young adults who are traumatized by their base instincts and struggling to understand why they have to be this way. It’s definitely heartbreaking to watch Lee and Maren have conversations about being eaters.

What Happens At The End Of Bones And All?

The ending ofBones And Allis not for the faint of heart. It’s upsetting, disturbing, and gory, but it’s also tragic. Maren finds out from Lee’s sister Kayla (Anna Cobb) that their dad, who abused them and drank too much, hurt them and then disappeared. The police thought that Lee was the one behind the attack but realized that he wasn’t.

Lee and Maren begin dating again and resume their plans to move around the U.S. together. This is when there is another big reveal: Lee explains that his dad was a cannibal, too. He says that he ate his dad and he feels terrible about it. The couple says that they can stop eating people and be together for real now. But when Lee and Maren kill Sully, Lee gets hurt, and he wants Maren to eat him “bones and all.” The movie ends with Maren agreeing.

Even though it feels inevitable that Lee and Maren will keep eating people and will be unable to stop themselves, it’s still hard not to wish that, for their sakes, tehy can be regular people who find happiness.

Is The Bones And All Ending Different In The Book?

The ending in theBones And Allbook is different, but not that much. Lee dies in both the book and the movie adaptation. And Maren eats him in both cases. In the book, Maren eats Lee against his will. In the movie, Lee is hurt when he and Maren kill Sully. Maren puts him out of his misery by eating him, at Lee’s request.

It’s tough to say if theBones And Allending is asatisfying horror movie ending. It’s definitely surprising to see what happens to the couple that seemed so determined to stay together. At the same time, though, it feels like if two cannibals are going to be together, this is the only logical conclusion. Is there really any other road that the story can go down?

The decision for Maren to eat Lee instead of the other way around is definitely important. While Lee has his vulnerable moments, Maren is much more likable. She’s one of thebest horror movie main charactersbecause she is on a journey of self-discovery. While she’s of course different from other characters since she’s an eater, her desire to find herself and love that person is understandable. It’s heartbreaking that she kills the person she has fallen in love with, but in a way, this act sets her free and she can now accept herself and move onto the next phase of her journey.
