AlthoughBorderlands 3has continued to release new in-game cosmetics for players, the creators and artists behind the game now want to offer fans some real-life cosmetics. Whilefans have created stunning artfor their favorite games, Gearbox Software is teaming up with a video game art gallery to offer some official options.
The organization in question, Cook and Becker, has previously worked with other studios. Most notably, it hosts official artwork collections for games likeThe Last of Usseries,The Witcher 3,andWorld of Warcraft. The art dealer offers original prints, concept art, and publishes books. In a tweet, Cook and Becker announced that it was collaborating with Gearbox to produce a fine art collection ofBorderlands 3prints.

According to the tweet and the gallery website, Cook and Becker are offering seven pieces based off of “famous 20th century art,” and artists like Banksy and Rene Magritte. Every print being sold is limited edition, and will come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Six of the seven pieces are interpretations of the game’s iconic Psycho Bandit, and the seventh is a mural ofBorderlands 3’s cast based off of the Baroque period of art history.
The announcement was met with excitement in the comments. One response said that the prints' art styles were similar to the prints offered inBorderlands 3’s Diamond Loot Chest edition.Indeed, the “Mural of Mayhem” piece does have a similar aesthetic as the character art landscape offered in the game’s collector’s edition. Similarities aside, Cook and Becker’s offerings might come as a disappointment to those who were hoping for a behind-the scenes look at the game or for concept art. Although the Psycho Bandit variants offer distinctive styles and colors, the lack of other subjects makes the collection feel somewhat shallow.
While the collection’s seven pieces might seem a bit slim, the website’s descriptions offer interesting explanations for the artistic decisions behind each work of art. Although Cook and Becker’s work might not be for the casual fan craving moreBorderlandscontent, diehard enthusiasts might enjoy picking up a piece. Overall, hopefully the artwork serves to provide some recognition to thetalented (and underpaid) artists behindBorderlands 3.
Borderlands 3is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
