WhileBorderlands 3players have been working their way through Krieg’s warped mind in the final season pass expansion for the game, one fan has stumbled upon a clear nod to a previousBorderlandsgame. The game in question is none other thanTales from the Borderlands, with theBorderlands 3easter egg paying homage to one of its more memorable moments.

While Randy Pitchford has already jumped ahead of the Krieg expansion and started talking abouta newBorderlands 3game mode, fans are still looking for everything there is to find inside the psycho’s head. Players like grilledcheesehat121 made an interesting discovery by looking outside the map of one of the locations in the new DLC, finding a Handsome Jack mask with a needle in his eye. While this may be confusing for those who have only played the mainline entries in the series, fans who experienceTales from the Borderlandswill know the moment right away.

Tales from the Borderlands, the popular Telltale game set after the events ofBorderlands 2, features a moment where protagonist Rhys uses an injector on his cybernetics to force out a holographic version of Handsome Jack. With that in mind, it is hard to see the floating mask as anything but a nod to that memorable moment fromTales from the Borderlands. Despite thecontroversy regarding Troy Baker’s removalfrom the role of Rhys, the character’s appearance withinBorderlands 3’s main story was well received, so fans will likely appreciate the nod to the character’s origin.

Fans have expressed a desire to see more of Rhys, as well as get some answers on what happened to con-artist turned Vault Hunter Fiona. Fiona did not appear within the story ofBorderlands 3or through audio logs, leaving many players to wonder what happened to the character. Her sister, Sasha, was also left out of theBorderlands 3story. When and if these characters ever make an appearance inBorderlands 3remains to be seen, but at the very least, fans may soon get the chance toplay the originalTalesgame again.

While players fight their way toVaulthalla in the new Krieg expansion, they may find other secrets present within the mind of theBorderlands 2vault hunter. While those secrets may not contain references toTalesspecifically, there is plenty of potential for small nods to other things that happened within theBorderlandsuniverse to be discovered. ThisTales from the Borderlandseaster egg is a neat reference, and one that could offer a small shred of hope for a season two now that Telltale has reopened.

If another season ofTalesnever comes, though, perhaps the answer for giving fans more content with Fiona and Rhys lies within board games. If theupcoming tabletop Tiny Tinagame proves successful, perhaps a choose your own adventure-style game could come forTalesfans one day and give them answers on the story’s vague ending.

Borderlands 3is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X upgrades will also be available.
