Harry Bosch is back in action later this month, in the second season ofBosch: Legacy. The spin-off series sees the former LAPD detective continue in his new role as a private investigator in Los Angeles, fighting crime without the shackles of the police department on him. The new season will premiere on October 20 on Amazon Freevee, and it will release two episodes each week, leading to a season finale on November 10.
Titus Welliver has been busting bad guys as Harry Bosch for nearly a decade now, having played the detective for 7 seasons on the original show, before taking the lead again in the spin-off series. A third season has already been greenlit, so his story is a long way from being finished, which is great news for fans of his uncompromising tactics on television screens.
In an exciting move for the series, it has been announced that the two-episode premiere ofBosch Legacywill get advanced screenings in selected theaters around the US on October 18. Thecrime actionshow has always been very cinematic, so it’ll be great to seeBoschget a big screen viewing. Here’s hoping the event goes down so well that they decide to give the titular character his own big screen adventure one day.
Which characters are returning for Season 2?
Bosch: Legacywill of course see the return of Titus Welliver as Harry Bosch, with Madison Lintz as his daughter and rookie cop, Maddie Bosch, Mimi Rogers as the smart defense lawyer, Honey ‘Money’ Chandler, and Stephen A. Chang as Bosch’s blues-loving tech-savvy assistant, Mo Bassi.
Expect to see Bosch’s business relationship with former adversary, Honey Chandler, expand further, as he works alongside her in his private investigator role, looking into cases she brings to his attention. Season 1 ofBosch: Legacyfeatured a few familiar faces from the parent show, as popular double act, Crate and Barrel made guest appearances, as well as Harry’s old partner, Jerry Edgar. All three of these characters are confirmed to guest star again in season 2, with the latter due to get his own spin-off series next year.
Nothing official has been confirmed for any other returning characters from the ever-expandingBoschuniverse, but don’t be surprised if more characters from the original show make brief appearances in Season 2. A character that would’ve been interesting to see again is Lt Irvin Irwing, butLance Reddickwho portrayed the Machiavellian character sadly died earlier this year. The writers ofBosch: Legacyare likely to explain Irwing’s absence by having the character die off-screen. He would’ve been a character likely to return at some point in the future, if it hadn’t been for Reddick’s untimely death.
What books will Season 2 be based on?
The upcoming season ofBosch: Legacywill be loosely based on Michael Connelly’s novel,The Crossing. It’ll pick up where the last season left off, with Maddie Bosch having been kidnapped by a mystery assailant who was waiting for her in her apartment. The trailer for the new season showed Harry Bosch re teaming with his former partner, Jerry Edgar to find Maddie.
Bosch will also team up with Honey Chandler to catch a killer who wants both of them dead. The season will also deal with the aftermath of the murder of Carl Rogers,who hired hitmen to kill the savvy lawyerin the final season of the original show. He was able to evade the criminal justice season in season 1 ofBosch: Legacy, but paid the ultimate price before the close of the debut season.
The Crossingwas the 28th book in the Bosch series of novels, and featured his half-brother, Mickey Haller, but don’t expect him to appear inBosch: Legacyas Netflix currently owns the rights to his character, with a third season of his own showThe Lincoln Lawyeralready greenlit. However, rumor has it, one of Bosch’s other collaborators in the books, LAPD detective Renee Ballard may be set to make an appearance in the form of a backdoor pilot to her own spin-off show which has been announced by Amazon.
It’s exciting times for theBoschuniverse as it continues to expand and evolve, with more spin-offs likely to be in the works if the Jerry Edgar and Renee Ballard planned shows do well. Crate and Barrel would work well as a spin-off show, with the experienced duo bouncing off each other very well in the originalAmazon Primeseries. There are countless other characters who would be strong enough to head their own shows as well, not to mention some of the characters from Michael Connelly’s books who are yet to make appearances in the television world ofBosch.
