ADestiny 2player suddenly found themselves one character short just a few days back, but Bungie’s developers have come to their rescue, restoring their data and providing some insight into what may have gone down. Being an always-online title that focuses on long-term progression with plenty of FOMO, loss of data inDestinyhas always been something that Bungie takes fairly seriously.
Even thoughDestiny 2is no stranger to server issues of all sorts, players have never really had to fear a permanent loss of data in any meaningful capacity. Freak accidents do happen, however, and Reddit user CyanSolar ended up losing their Titan character just a few days back, with some community members attempting to help them however they could.

Specifically, CyanSolar posted on the biggestDestiny 2subreddit claiming that their Titan disappeared out of the blue. The story took off when they posted proof that they had a character missing, and Bungie’s Community Manager, Liana Ruppert, came to their rescue. This particularDestiny 2problemwas so serious that it took several teams of developers before it could be resolved. CyanSolar was eventually reunited with their Titan thanks to Bungie’s efforts, and though Ruppert couldn’t share what exactly had happened, she did assure the community that it shouldn’t ever happen again.
It’s no secret thatDestiny 2has a bad new player experience, but Bungie has worked hard to retain its veteran audiences. Players like CyanSolar, who end up losing crucial profile data in strange, one-off incidents should therefore reach out to Bungie as quickly as possible. Ruppert, in fact, said that many players had expressed interest in an actual character restoration feature, though she couldn’t promise its implementation at this time.
It cannot be overstated how important long-term account data is for veteranDestinyplayers.Destiny 2’s Season of the Seraph FOMOis pretty bad, just to list one major example, and players that don’t participate in this season will end up losing out on cosmetics and various other key rewards. Had Bungie not jumped in, CyanSolar would’ve had to replay and re-unlock large batches of the game just to get back to where they previously were.
Bungie has had a solid track record withDestiny 2as of late, but one major hurdle that came up late in 2022 was the game’s alleged subscription plan data mine. In the end, however,Destiny 2’s alleged subscription was a hoax, and though it doesn’t seem like it was a deliberate act of malice, it did make some community members angry over the notion that Bungie may have been looking at more ways to monetize the game.
