Since then, developer Infinity Ward has been steadily updating the game with several seasons of new maps, modes, and more.
After Season 4 ofModern Warfare 2brought the Vondel map toWarzone, Season 5 shook up the multiplayer suite with the addition of three new 6v6 maps, two new Gunfight maps, the new Havoc party mode, and lots more. Additionally, Phillip Graves from the game’s campaign made his multiplayer debut alongside hip-hop legends Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, and 21 Savage, who were added to the game as part of a 50-year celebration of hip-hop. Most recently, the mid-season Reload broughtgaming icon Lara CroftintoModern Warfare 2as an operator, as well as added various other new modes to hold players over until Season 6.

With Season 5 approaching its end andModern Warfare 3right around the corner,Call of Dutyhas announced that it’s makingModern Warfare 2’s multiplayer suite available to try out for free for a limited time. The free access period begins on September 13 and ends on September 20, giving gamers one week to delve intoModern Warfare 2’s multiplayer modes. However, players accessing the game for free will be limited to just 2.5 hours of in-match playtime.
Though the allotted time may be short, players will gain access to12Modern Warfare 2maps, including the newest Season 5 additions Punta Mar and Strike, as well as 11 modes across the Core, Battle Map, and Party categories.Call of Duty’s blog post made no mention of which weapons will be made available for the free event, so it’s currently unknown whether players will be able to access the whole arsenal or perhaps a set of predetermined loadouts.
This free access period could be a smart way forCall of Dutyto get new players in the door ahead of the imminentCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3launching in November.
