With the indefinite delay ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Season 4, many fans who were looking forward to new weapons, battle pass tiers, and operators are left to sit and wait. The delay was announced in response to the ongoing protests in the US, and therefore there isno set date forModern WarfareSeason 4to launch. The weapons of season 4 in particular have been on players' minds for a long time and are definitely worth looking forward to. The Vector has even been teased since Season 1, so it is high time it makes its way into the game.

Call of Duty: Modern WarfareandWarzonethrive on their weapons, so adding new guns each season helps keep the game alive and kicking. The Galil is an extra exciting addition not only because of its real-world fame and unique design, but also because of how it could change the meta of the game. Much as the RAM-7 shook up light, quick ARs, the Galil could very well change how players use heavier, high-damage rifles. The Vector will also likely change the realm of SMGs, but as an AR, the Galil will likely see far more use across all game modes, especiallyWarzone.

What is the Galil?

The Galil will almost definitely be added as part of the Season 4 battle pass because of its inclusion in the trailer for the season, right along with fan-favorite character Captain Price andhints about the new maps. The Galil is definitely one of the most interesting weapons to be added toModern Warfare, in part because of its real world use and design features. The Galil is a re-design of a revision of the AK-47, making it something like a modernized version of an AK that went through a game of telephone. That gives it some very unique design features, but none are quite as funny as the inclusion of a bottle opener on the handguard of the original version.

The Galil inModern Warfarewill be a Galil ACE, an even more modernized version, but if the bottle opener isn’t available in at least one blueprint, it will be a sad day for fans. The Galil ACE is anAR focused on accuracy and mobility, which will set it apart from the AK-47 that it is based on. However, it will still use 7.62 caliber ammunition, giving it great range and stopping power. Most of the best weapons inModern WarfareandWarzoneuse 5.56 caliber rounds with a very high fire rate, so the Galil will be a welcome addition as another good gun that uses a larger caliber. It was also offered in 5.56 in real-world use, so players should expect the option to change ammunition types with an attachment.

How the Galil Will Change CoD’s Meta

Currently, the AK-47 and the FN SCAR 17 are the only two automatic ARs inModern WarfareandWarzonethat use 7.62 caliber ammunition. The larger bullet size is great for getting through thick armor or taking out targets up close or at range with very few shots, but both weapons have some serious downsides. TheFN SCAR is seriously underrated, but it still has very small magazine capacity and relatively poor mobility, making it a poor choice for many players who want an all-rounder for their primary weapon. With the right use it is great, but it can’t excel outside of its wheelhouse.

TheAK-47 is an incredibly versatile weapon, but its unpredictable recoil and slow handling make it very hard to use at long ranges. This is where the Galil can shine. With better accuracy and recoil than an AK, decent magazine sizes, and handling made better by modern materials, it could step into a role that neither the AK or the SCAR can fill. Of course, it wouldn’t be good for the Galil to be the best at everything, but to compete with something like the RAM-7 or the M4A1, it will need to be extremely strong. Just as the RAM-7 is just slightly better than the M4A1 only at close range, the Galil should be a better choice for long-range engagements but be a little less useful up close.

While the AK will still be extremely versatile and useful, it will almost certainly fall by the wayside in favor of its more modern cousin. All of this is mere speculation though. Of course, outside of dubious leaks, no one has actually gotten to seeModern Warfare’s Galil in action. Let’s all hope it can live up to the hype, and possibly even give some of the game’s most legendary weapons a run for their money.
