The reboot of theModern Warfarefranchiseis being seen as a grand-success, as initially, the decision sounded intriguing, but perhaps also a bit of a gamble. Infinity Ward thought it would be wise to start fresh with the franchise, and that the new take would build extra hype for fans. The numbers speak for themselves.
Activision has been incredibly busy with theCall of Dutyfranchise as of late, breaking its yearly cadence of one newCODgame each fall and releasingCall of Duty: Warzone, the popular and successful battle royale, andCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remasteredin the past couple months.
Warzoneis a free to play stand-alone title, but also playable inside ofModern Warfare. And theMW2 Campain Remasteredgame can be purchased withinModern Warfare, which gives the players an extra operator skin and tons of goodies to use inModern Warfareitself. It looks like Activision’s plan of melding these games together as much as possible has proven to be lucrative.
Even with all the sales success, however, fans have been frustrated with the state ofModern Warfare. The glitches and server issues are seemingly endless, as a new problem seems to unveil itself every few days. There are some fans who have claimed that they will stop playing the popular shooter until Activision and Infinity Ward fix problems such as losing battle pass progress, not being able to get into games, and cheaters running ramped.
Still, even with the issues,Modern Warfare’s success is undeniable.Activision recently claimed thatCall of Duty 2020is still on trackfor later this year, so whatever that new title– which is being developed by Treyarch– is, it will have a high bar to jump over if it wants to catchModern Warfare.
