WhileCall of Duty Modern Warfarehas enjoyed incredible success and broken plenty of sales records for Activision since it launched in October, the game itself hasn’t been a flawless experience. Players have had to deal with an assortment of issues from overpowered weapons, awful spawn locations, and more than a few bugs. Unfortunately, a particularly nasty one has been found earlier this week whichblocks players from earning XP. Naturally the community is up in arms over this and even though it’s a holiday week in the United States, Infinity Ward has finally responded.
As more and more posts appear on theCall of Duty: Modern WarfaresubReddit, Infinity Ward’s Senior Communications Manager has issued a response to the fans. Ashton Williams confirmed that at least some members of the development team are in the studio trying to figure this issue out. To potentially assist in the discovery process, the team is also asking for more data from players who are running into this bug.

Unfortunately, the request for more datapoints from the community likely means a fix isn’t imminent. While this bug is bad enough on its own, it has received even more attention due to the fact that it comes at a time when double XP is active. Worse yet, this bug is also capable of stopping progression on weapon camos, challenges, missions, and unlocking new Battle Pass tiers which wasintroduced at the start of Season One. With how stingy it can be to progress to new tiers of the Battle Pass, missing out on being able to double the rate of progression is a huge deal to players.
The difficult aspect to this latest bug is that it’s not currently known what triggers it. Some have indicated that whole lobbies are impacted while others report that it is only happening to them. For some players, the bug is only temporary as the progress is considered banked by the game and after a few matches it is actually applied. This random nature is also likely why the bug is so difficult to pin down.
While this bug may be the most high profile at the moment, it’s not the only one negatively impacting the game. Some players are starting totake advantage of map related exploitsto rack up some very easy kills. On Shipment, one player used an exploit to glitch out of bounds beyond the fencing to essentially make themselves invincible. Shoot House also has an exploit which lets players under the map for some easy kills. Unfortunately, it seems Shoot House has another issue as a recent report detailed a player firing rockets through a wall at other players. Needless to say, Infinity Ward seems to have its work cut out for it when it gets back from the holiday break.
