Ever sinceSledgehammer Gamesfirst joined theCall of Dutyseries, it, like most of the mainline studios who work on the franchise, only really worked on one game at a time. Now, that’s seemingly changed as the studio behindCall of Duty: WWIIhas revealed it is now “a multi-project studio” and that it’s hiring around 100 extra workers to help with those projects.
The news comes the way of VentureBeat/GamesBeat, who interviewed Andy Wilson, the relatively new chief operating officer of Sledgehammer Games who joined the team in 2019.

Unfortunately, there’s not much else we know about these “projects” given the fact that Wilson only mentions them and doesn’t go into any detail about them whatsoever. As previously mentioned, the studio last worked onCall of Duty: WWIIand given its history, it’s pretty easy to deduce that the games are going to be a part of theCall of Dutyfranchise.
Now, it’s totally possible that these games somehow aren’t a part of theCall of Dutyfranchise. Technically, we don’t know anything about them. If they aren’t a part of that franchise, then that would essentially be the first time in a while that aCall of Dutystudio has done something like this. Still, considering the fact that Activision is rumored to havefourCall of Dutygames in development, they probably need all the help they can get on that franchise.
It’ll be very interesting to see exactly what the studio is working on. If rumors are to be believed, one of these projects is probablyCall of Duty 2020,which Sledgehammer was originally helming alongside Raven Software, before a falling out caused thedevelopment to be taken over by Treyarch. That combined with today’s news might mean that Sledgehammer has completely shifted over as a support studio and not a mainline one, at least for the time being.
That, however, is complete speculation and Activision has neither confirmed nor denied anything about Sledgehammer Games or even this year’sCall of Duty,includingwhether or not Treyarch is working on the title, which is a bit unusual for the publisher.
According toCall of Duty 2020rumors, the game is set to take place during the Vietnam War and will connect to the Black Ops series in some way. Only time will tell, however, how much involvement Sledgehammer Games will have in the title.
Call of Duty 2020is rumored to be released on both current-gen and next-gen consoles sometime later this year.
