Summary
Call of Duty: Warzoneis bringing back two fan-favorite maps, with both Fortune’s Keep and Rebirth Island returning next year. It’s now been well over three years since the release of the popular free-to-playCall of Dutybattle royale and a healthy number of maps have come and gone. While the release of new maps is always exciting, sometimesCall of Duty: Warzoneplayers want nothing more than to revisit some of their old favorites. Activision will be delivering exactly that in 2024.
Rebirth Island was first released forCall of Duty: Warzoneall the way back in December 2020. It was unique compared to Verdasnk, in that it was limited to just 40 players. The Fortune’s Keep map forCall of Duty: Warzonefollowed much later on June 01, 2025, as part ofSeason 4 ofCall of Duty: Vanguard. It, too, was based on the respawn-enabled Resurgence mode and limited to 40 players. Both maps were retired with the launch ofWarzone 2in late 2022, as Activision shifted focus to Al Mazrah.
SinceCall of Duty: Warzone 2’s launch, players have been anxious for the return of either Rebirth Island or Fortune’s Keep. That patience will be rewarded, as Activision has officially announced that both maps will be returning. The announcement was made as part of the Call of Duty Next Showcase, teasing plans for therelease ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3and beyond.
Unfortunately, the return ofRebirth Island and Fortune’s Keepwon’t be in the immediate future. Fortune’s Keep will be returning first. It’s currently planned for “early next year.” Rebirth Island will follow later in 2024. Resurgence is coming back in a big way in 2024, making for the most diverse map rotation inCall of Duty: Warzone’s history.
Bringing back classic maps isn’t all that’s in store forCall of Duty: Warzonein the near future, of course. There’s also thenew map Urzikstan, which will be released as part of theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3integration with the battle royale. Urzikstan is described as a dense map with a focus on fast-paced mobility.
Needless to say, there’s a lot of exciting map variety coming toCall of Duty: Warzonein the relatively near future. Some fans may even be more excited about the return of Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep than they are for Urzikstan. Regardless, there’s plenty of exciting content to look forward with the release ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3for allCall of Duty: Warzoneplayers.
Call of Duty: Warzoneis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
