Scream 6star Courteney Cox recently spoke out about the absence of her co-star, Neve Campbell, and the surreal experience of filming the much-awaited 6th installment of the series.
Cox, who is one of only three cast members of the first four films to make it to 2022’sScream 5, reprises her role of Gail Weathers, the brave and often comic-relief journalist who has been on the run from one version of Ghostface or another since the originalScreamreleased in 1996. Cox, David Arquette as Dewey, and Neve Campbell as triumphant final girl Sydney Prescott were the only original stars in the most recent sequel. Cox, however, is the only one to make it toScream 6. While Arquette’s character was killed off in the last film, Campbell has spoken out on her inability to reach a financial agreement andwhy she turned downScream 6.

In a recent interview withVariety, Cox mourned her missing co-star and the experience of making a new film without the iconic Sydney Prescott. “I missed working with her, but I’m going to support whatever she feels is right,” Cox said before talking about the surreal experience of filming scenes in a film where the identity of the famous Ghostface was unknown to both cast and crew, remaining one of Hollywood’s best-kept secrets leading up to the release. Cox said, “I have a really good scene with Ghostface and it was amazing. I’ve obviously been stabbed many times and all that, but this time, to work with Ghostface and not know who’s under the mask, it was really fun. Usually by the time I’m getting stabbed, I know who it is.”
Cox herself is no stranger to actors demanding the financial respect they deserve. Her and fellow castmates ofthe beloved sitcomFriends, including Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow, often campaigned for adequate compensation for the long-running show they helped make a phenomenal NBC network success. Without Campbell, Cox joins a cast of newbies and familiar faces fromScream 5, including the franchise’s new final girls, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega.
Even without the iconic Sydney Prescott, fans of the previousScreamfilms will no doubt be happy to see at least one familiar face from the original films more than 27 years later after the first killers, Billy (Skeet Ulrich) and Stu (Matthew Lillard), beganterrifying film audiences as Ghostface.
Scream 6will be in theaters on March 10th, 2022.
