Summary

CD Projekt Red recently revealed patch notes for the upcoming 2.01 update toCyberpunk 2077, covering a number of tweaks and fixes. This update follows the game’sPhantom Libertyand massive 2.0 update which, despite beingcriticized by someCyberpunk 2077players, has been generally considered a success.

SinceCyberpunk 2077launched in a notoriously buggy state, many gamers harbored concerns about thePhantom LibertyDLC. The substantial expansion was set to introduce a new region, new weapons, and a cinematic, sprawling quest line, adding plenty of fresh and ambitious content to the game. Luckily, it seems that CD Projekt Red learned its lesson from the initialCyberpunk 2077controversies andPhantom Liberty, alongside its accompanying 2.0 update, arrived with few technical issues. However, there are still some areas that could be tidied up, some of which are being addressed through the game’s next update.

Despite the fact that CD Projekt Red is shifting itsfocus to theCyberpunk 2077sequel, further small improvements will continue to be made to the game following the 2.0 update. The studio recently released the patch notes for the first of these small updates, which will be fixing a number of bugs. Some of the bugs addressed are minor, like the car radio playing too quietly, while others, like save files being corrupted on PlayStation, are more significant. The patch notes also state that PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game will all be receiving performance improvements.

While many fans were understandably bothered by the base game’s serious technical issues at launch, the launch ofPhantom Libertyhas been remarkably smooth when compared to that of the base game. AlthoughCyberpunk 2077still isn’t perfect,Phantom Libertyand the 2.0 update have shown what the game could have been at launch if more time was spent working out its kinks. With the arrival of this upcoming patch and future patches, the game should become even more polished.

That said, CD Projekt Red still has work to do. The 2.01 update, per the patch notes, addresses some common bugs and concerns, but not all of them, and some players may still feel unsatisfied with the game’s technical state, especially those on PS4 and Xbox One, who will not be able to enjoy the 2.0 update or thePhantom LibertyDLC. However, withPhantom Libertyoffering a fresh takeon the game and the 2.0 update overhauling many of its criticized systems, the future ofCyberpunk 2077looks brighter than ever.
