Dead by Daylightis rolling out more changes to the game, as two Killers both see big updates. The Cannibal gets a chainsaw charge mechanic, while The Hillbilly can overheat his chainsaw. Both killers have several new changes for players to be aware of, either those whoplay as them or those who are being chasedby them.
Dead by Daylightis no stranger to balancing its many characters. Since the release of the The Executioner and Cheryl Masonin the recentSilent Hillcrossover, the developers have had time to tinker around in other areas. Two killers in particular are the focus of new changes, but for different reasons.

The developers stated that since The Cannibal is one of the least used killers in the game, they hoped some changes would make players want to pick him. In the case of The Hillbilly, the developerswanted to introduce more resource managementso that his abilities felt more powerful when used correctly.
The Cannibal now starts with 3 charges to his Chainsaw Sweep. Using the chainsaw consumes one of these charges and triggers the attack, lasting 2 seconds. If he misses or collides with an obstacle, he will throw a tantrum, effectively becoming stunned for several seconds. One charge refills every 4 seconds while the chainsaw is not being used. The speed that he can swing the chainsaw has also slightly increased, from 5.06 m/s to 5.29 m/s.
The Hillbilly’schainsaw has a new overheat mechanic, which functions similarly to the charges. Using the chainsaw builds up heat and will shut down if overheated. 5 charges of heat are gained by revving the chainsaw. While revving, it adds 8 charges per second and while sprinting it adds 2 charges per second. The chainsaw will overheat at 100 charges, but then dissipate 5 charges per second when not being used.
Both of these killers are now played in different ways, and their perks have been updated to reflect this. Franklin’s Demise will not remove items that players drop if they don’t pick them back up in a certain amount of time. Knock Out now makes players crawl slowly and be Blinded for several seconds. Lightborn now grants immunity to flashlights and firecrackers, while Tinkerer now activates sooner and makes players Undetectable when activated.
As with any change to the game, the next week or so will bring a lot of experimentation as players figure out exactly what these characters’ new roles are. If someone didn’t play them before, maybe now is the time to try them out. If all goes well,we will see more updates soonerrather than later.
Dead by Daylightis available now on Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. It will release on Stadia in September.
