TheDead Spaceuniverse is set to expand with a newly announced official scripted podcast. TitledDead Space: Deep Cover, the upcomingDead Spacepodcast will tell the story of a journalist who goes looking for her sister who has gone missing after she had reportedly joined the Church of Unitology.

After lying dormant for over a decade, EA decided to resurrect its acclaimed deep space-set survival-horror franchise withaDead Spaceremake, a full rebuild of the original 2008 title from the ground up. Reception to the new version of the title has been almost universally positive, with the new podcast being indicative of EA’s continued investment in the series.

According to the podcast’s official description,Dead Space: Deep Coverwill follow the story of journalist Emmeline Ayuba as she searches for her sister, who supposedly joineda local Unitologist church. In order to reunite with her sister, Emmeline will encounter “internal conflicts, strange customs” and endure “personal sacrifices” as she delves into the mysterious religion. For those that may be unfamiliar, Unitology is a fictional religion within theDead Spacecanon which believes humans were created by intelligent alien design, and will be “reunified” after death via the power of the Markers, in reality turning into a Necromorph.

Dead Space: Deep Coverwill be written by accomplished sci-fi author Ben Counter. Counter has extensively contributed totheWarhammer 40,000franchise, including entries in the Space Marine Legends and Battles series, the Grey Knights series, and the Soul Drinkers series. Part of the Cineverse Podcast Network and produced by Bloody Disgusting in cooperation with EA,Dead Space: Deep Coverwill launch for free on all major podcast platforms in Q1 2024. The series will consist of 12 episodes in total, releasing weekly.

News of the upcoming scripted podcast interestingly follows in the footsteps of a very similar title,The Callisto Protocol. A prequel story to the game,The Callisto Protocol: Helix Stationfeatures the talents of Gwendoline Christie and Michael Ironside, and even contains a fun nod toDead Space’s famous Plasma Cutter weapon. ConsideringThe Callisto Protocolwas directed by the original co-creator ofDead Space, it’s interesting to see the two franchises possibly borrowing ideas from one another.

The incomingDead Space: Deep Coverpodcast should enrich the lore of the franchise, and make it all the more appealing for new players to jump in. While still normally at the premium $70 price point, right now gamers can get theDead Spaceremake at a substantial discount, making it the perfect time to board the USG Ishimura.

Dead Spaceis available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
