But, unfortunately, that’s proving unexpectedly difficult for many Xbox Series S and Xbox series X users. While the game was down for maintenance early this morning, Bungie announced over Twitter that it was investigating a problem preventing Xbox users from signing in. It is still unclear whether developers fixed the problem even several hours later. Still, theDestiny 2developer says users can sign in to the game after manually downloading the update and restarting the game.

Bungie walked players through the process of updatingDestiny 2in a pair of follow-up tweets. To verify they’re able to sign in,Destiny 2players on Xbox Series X/Sshould access “My Games and Apps” from the Xbox Dashboard, then select the options for “Manage” followed by “Updates.” Players then need to select each title and tell them to Update. Players will need to wait until all updates have been installed before launchingDestiny 2.

Upon loading the game,Destiny 2players may see a screen saying, “There’s an upgrade!” If so, players will need to select the “Upgrade” button and then wait as the game installs another update. After that,Destiny 2players should quit and relaunch the game. If the message is still there, players will need to select “Upgrade” again and then repeat the process as many times as necessary until it stops appearing.

While it’s good that Xbox users will be able to experienceDestiny 2’s new content, this certainly sounds like it can turn into a tedious update process. Fans in the Twitter replies were not particularly impressed with this elaborate workaround. The new expansions also led to a pretty big spike in activity, reportedly resulting in long queue times as players wait for a server to open up. Overall, it’s not the most auspicious launch forDestiny 2’s latest expansion.
