Sarif Industries' Background
Sarif Industries was founded in 2007 by philanthropist David Sarif when he purchased a failing Detroit auto factory and repurposed it for the automated manufacture of prosthetics. Sarif Industries is a company that specializes in the design and production of advanced mechanical augmentations for human implantations. The company differentiates itself from its competitors by collaborating with clients to develop progressive,forward-thinking custom augmentationsthat address specific challenges and needs. It is a firm believer that augmentation research, development, and implementation are indicators of human progress toward a better, stronger, faster, and brighter future.
In 2009, the United States government, already stretched thin by two Mideast conflicts, awards the contract for the Recycle Military Bill, which funds free prosthetics for any wounded veteran who re-enlists, to Sarif Industries. The company goes on to become the world’s largest prosthetics manufacturer.
Sarif announced the release of the Eye-Know Retinal Prosthesis on June 22, 2025, with the goal of restoring sight to those suffering from previously incurable optic nerve damage and other visual impairments. In 2017,the US militaryawards Sarif a top-secret no-bid contract to manufacture deep-brain intelligence-enhancing chips in an attempt to catch up with rival nations' rapid advancements.
Sarif recognized the need for an entirely new, high-level security team to protect its research and employees in 2026 in response to increased competition and a shrinking marketplace. A group is formed and put into action, consisting of highly trained personnel and a veteran leader in the form of ex-SWAT member Adam Jensen. In 2027, members of the anti-augmentation group Humanity Front demonstrate in front of the Sarif Headquarters in Detroit against Sarif’s augmentation program.
Sarif faces crippling regulatory measures as a result of the recently passed Taggart Act in the aftermath ofthe Aug Incident. This, combined with the cancellation of many of their outstanding contracts and increased public anti-augmentation sentiment, proves to be their undoing. As a result, Sarif Industries declared bankruptcy in 2028, with most of its assets and patents being acquired by Tai Yong Medical.
Sarif Industries' Website
A Sarif Industries website was launched as part ofDeus Ex: Human Revolution’s marketing campaign. It was designed to look like the company’s website in-universe, and it included videos promoting the company and its products. There was an entire section dedicated to the augmentation Sarif was developing, complete with explanations. There was also a page where users could take photos of themselves and edit a variety of augmentations onto their bodies.
The website also contained a hacking minigame that was a simplified version of the in-game hacking minigame. When you finished the minigame, you were rewarded with secret information that Purity First had allegedly hacked. A video of a conversation between E-SO, ahacker, and an unknown user was included in this information. Sarif Industries' military-grade weapon augmentations, including the Typhoon Explosive System, are demonstrated in the video. Completing the hacking minigame grants the user access to Megan Reed’s, Francis Pritchard’s, Faridah Malik’s, and Athene Margoulis' profiles.
Deus Ex: Human Revolutionis now available on PC, PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360.
