After the arrival of Season 4 and its many reworked mechanics,Diablo 4players have seemingly returned in droves as the Steam platform has hit an all-new milestone. The seasonal structure ofDiablo 4has proven to be hit or miss with many players, though it seems like Blizzard’s efforts with the newly released Season 4: Loot Reborn have been largely successful, with the player base praising the efforts of the studio.
Transitioning away from what many felt was an unsuccessful Season 3,Blizzard actually delayed the start of Season 4in order to give players enough time in the PTR server to provide feedback on many of the new mechanics, like the reworked crafting and itemization systems, as well as updated Helltides. What resulted with Loot Reborn was a lot of positive changes and reworks that have left most in the community wishing the game had originally launched in this state. In fact, players appear to be so pleased with the current state ofDiablo 4that the Steam platform has even managed to see major growth.
Accoirding toSteamDB,Diablo 4surged past its all-time peak numbers following thelaunch of Season 4:Loot Reborn. Just recently over the weekend, the Steam version ofDiablo 4managed to hit 29,035 concurrent players, representing a new milestone on that platform, taking down the previous high mark of 28,836 which came closer to the game’s arrival on the platform. What may be more impressive is thatDiablo 4has largely managed to retain these players beyond the launch of Season 4.
What these Diablo 4 Steam Player Numbers Actually Mean
While the player numbers are impressive for Steam, it’s worth noting that these are likely only a small fraction of the total player population thanks to it being available on consoles and Game Pass as well. When Diablo 4 first launched in June 2023, it arrived for PC players only through Battle.net, which quickly became the PC’s place to play. However,Diablo 4later launched on Steama few months later in October, and while there are likely some players who made the switch, it’s highly likely that Battle.net continues to hold the bigger numbers since the game was exclusively available there for a few months.
While the community has largely been extremely positive with the changes Blizzard has made, not everything has gone quite to plan. SomeDiablo 4players have found unfinished items while taking on Helltides, including a unique amulet called Eye of the Depths with WIP placed in front of it indicating “work in progress.” The description also had a “TBD” slot and another “WIP” listed for the item’s description.
