Blizzard’s Rod Fergusson has confirmed thatDiablo 4players will need to make a new character to participate in seasonal content. This news might be upsetting to someDiablo 4players who are new to theDiablofranchise, especially since many have invested a significant amount of time in leveling up their characters already.ReachingDiablo 4’s max level cap is no easy feat. To put into perspective justhow serious theDiablo 4max level grind is, level 85 in the game is technically the halfway point in terms of how much XP one needs to reach 100. It’s safe to say that many gamers won’t be interested in starting over with a new character and not only having to level all the way up again but also repeat much of the same content that they have already been through.RELATED:Diablo 4 Players Frustrated with Legendary Aspect SystemUnfortunately for those individuals, Blizzard’s Rod Fergusson has confirmed on Twitter that taking part inDiablo 4’s seasonal content requires players to create a new seasonal character. This means those that want to stick with the character they have now will be missing out on the “seasonal questline, mechanics, season journey, and battle pass.” While this was expected by longtimeDiabloplayers, those new to the franchise may be confused and frustrated by this. And withDiablo 4breaking Blizzard sales records, it’s safe to say that it definitely has attracted new players to the long-running series.

Others could argue that this doesn’t really work withDiablo 4’s live service model. After all, other live service games don’t require players to start from scratch with a new character to experience seasonal content, and so it will be interesting to see if this decision alienates any ofDiablo 4’s community. It’s easy to see how some gamers may simply not bother with the seasonal content once they realize they have to make a new character.

There has already been some concern and controversy over how Blizzard would be handlingDiablo 4’s seasonal content. Many fans were worried about howDiablo 4would handle renown with the seasonal resets, as players were stressed about having to potentially rediscover the entire map or hunt down all the Altars of Lilith again. Luckily, Blizzard confirmed that wouldn’t be the case.

Diablo 4’s first season is expected to start next month, so it will be some time before fans of the action-RPG can see if the seasonal content is worth the grind. Those who are uninterested in following alongDiablo 4’s seasonal stories can simply wait for the expansions to come out before they jump back into the game, of course. TheDiablo 4DLC expansionsdon’t have release dates at the time of this writing, but Blizzard has confirmed that at least two are in development.

Diablo 4is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
