Summary

Blizzard has issued notice suspending trading inDiablo 4until further notice. While there are good reasons for the ban, this is the likely to add fuel to the fire asunhappy players air their grievances withDiablo 4by review bombing the game on Steam. While it still retains a “Mixed” Steam review aggregate, 45% of all reviews are negative at this time. This figure could be a lot worse, but it is clear thatDiablo 4has been divisive thus far.

Diablo 4recently received its second major seasonal update which adds new end-game bosses along with various other additions and improvements. The general consensus among players thus far seems to be thatDiablo 4is a solid game, but itunderwhelms when compared to previous titles in theDiablofranchisefor several reasons. Some of the main complaints players have with the game are around its pricing model and the inclusion of microtransactions that some might describe as predatory. Others have complained about bugs and technical issues they’ve experienced in the game.

Blizzard community manager Rich Bantegui (going by the handle filthierich on the officialDiablo 4forums) announced a suspension of player trading in pending the resolution of a duplication exploit. He thanks players for their patience as the developers work on the issue, but not before warning the community that accounts found abusing these exploits “will be actioned.” This could mean thatanotherDiablo 4ban waveis imminent.

A blanket ban on trading might seem heavy-handed, but it is a logical step to ensure that the in-game economy isn’t completely ruined. Unfortunately there isn’t a clear timeline on whenDiablo 4players can expect the ban to be lifted, but Blizzard appears to be taking the issue very seriously. Letting players run amok with gold and item duplication glitches can ruin the experience of any online game, and it is exactly these kinds of glitches that players are most likely to exploit.

This isn’t the first timeDiablo 4has had issues with item duplication exploits. It’s as if every time Blizzard plugs one such hole in the game, another one opens. Hopefully it won’t take long until a hotfix is released, so players can get back to trading. Blizzard surely wants to resolve the issue once and for all so that theDiablo 4experience is consistent for everyone.

Diablo 4is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
