The closed beta for Private Division and V1 Interactive’sDisintegrationis currently underway, agame that fans ofHaloandDestiny 2may want to check out. The studio’s founder, Marcus Lehto, is credited as the father ofHalo’s Master Chief and worked onDestinybriefly while at Bungie, and while his latest game is something a little different from them, it appears to be a deep Sci-Fi world at its core.
Disintegration’s open betawill launch in a couple of days, so fans who could not get into the closed beta will be able to check it out for themselves in a few days' time. The campaign isn’t playable, but the multiplayer element of it is. Players will be taking on a crew to compete in 5v5 matches that utilize vehicular combat and RTS mechanics rather successfully, especially given that it’s a technical beta, but it’s even more noteworthy that the game’s crew designs are just as impressive.

Players will take on one of 7 crews currently available in the beta, and it seems plausible more will be added at or after the full launch ofDisintegration. For now, the playable crews are The Sideshow, King’s Gaurd, Lost Ronin, Neon Dreams, Tech Noir, WarHedz, and The Business. Each crew features different abilities, different units, and arguably as important, different designs. Each crew stands out from each other, albeit in a fitting way, thanks to its aesthetic design.
Disintegration’s The Sideshow
The Sideshow’s design is clearly based on clowns if that’s not self-evident by its name, but there is a skin for the Gravcycle and Pilot, called Giggle and Chuckle respectively, that give these clowns the green-and-purple color scheme. While it’s not directly referencingthe Joker, given the design of the Pilot and the color scheme, it seems safe to say that many will look at thisDisintegrationcrew and think of the DC villain.
Disintegration’s King’s Guard
The King’s Guard is a crew with a Knightly design, as the Pilot even stands with a Sword in hand. The inclusion of medieval themes in Sci-Fi games isn’t altogether uncommon, but it’s a nice touch to add some variety to the crews available in the game. It even goes so far to show one of the Pilot’s units kneeling in the background.
Disintegration’s Lost Ronin
Another historic touch to the game brings Japan’s Samurai, or more specifically Ronin, to the game. The Gravcycle is event outlined with dragons, as is the Pilot’s chest. Given the popularity of theJapanese setting in video games, this may be the least surprising.
Disintegration’s Neon Dreams
One of the most eye-catching crews available inDisintegrationis the Neon Dreams, who feature a clear and obvious Cyberpunk design. The Pilot wears a biker helmet and jacket with a neon symbol on his back and is seen tapping his foot, while his Gravcycle features the exact same neon color scheme and his units stand around like hype men. It’s notCyberpunk 2077, but it channels the same aesthetic nevertheless.
Disintegration’s Tech Noir
The Tech Noir crew is perhaps the most “default” lookingSci-Fi crewwith its simple red and white design, but this also beckons to its function inDisintegration: healing. The Tech Noir secondary ability heals players, so while simple, it remains effective.
Disintegration’s Warhedz
Disintegration’s Warhedz crew looks like something that would be out of aFalloutor Rage game, as the Gravcycle is covered in spikes, the Pilot is holding a baseball bat with nails in it, and the overall color scheme is rather muddy. It stands out from the others as a result, as of all of these, it seems the least “Sci-Fi” and more “dystopian.” Bringing the two aesthetics together here is eye-catching.
Disintegration’s The Business
The Business' design is based on an overall “street” aethestic, as the pilot wears a hat backwards, golden sunglasses, and a golden chain necklace, while its gravcycle is based on a muscle car. Its available skins even include flames and unique markings for said muscle gravcycle.
Overall, these aesthetic designs may not have any real influence on the gameplay or how a crew operates in-game, but it could helpDisintegrationbeta playersdecide which crew is their favorite, at least until more are added presumably later on. There’s no real correct answer when it comes to determining if the dedicating factor for favoritism is effectiveness/combat usage or overall design, after all.
Disintegrationis set to release in 2020 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
