While plenty of Disney-owned properties are heavily featured in video games, a la Marvel andStar Wars,core Disney characters themselves often appear much fewer and farther between. This is soon to change, however, withDisney Speedstorm, an upcoming racing game which has begun to reveal its roster of characters.
Developed by Gameloft, the same creators of theAsphaltmobile racing series,Disney Speedstormwas first announced during the Nintendo Directback in February. The title was announced via a teaser trailer, which showcased several of the iconic Disney and Pixar characters and locales players will be able to experience.

Billed as a hero-based battle racing game,Disney Speedstormhas already confirmed a variety of characters from various Disney and Pixar franchises, including Mickey Mouse,Pirates of the Caribbean’sJack Sparrow, Mulan, Sully fromMonsters Inc., Goofy, and Donald Duck. It is now being confirmed that Baloo,the lovable bear fromThe Jungle Book, is part of the roster. The reveal was made viaDisney Speedstorm’s official Twitter account, which includes a short clip of Baloo dancing.
Baloo is the latest Brawler to be revealed for the roster, with the only other Brawler confirmation currently being Donald Duck.Disney Speedstormfeatures four distinct character classes, each with their own unique set of skills: Brawler, Trickster, Speedster, and Defender. While what those skills exactly consist of have yet to be revealed, each character’s stats will be completely upgradeable. It’s a similar case for the game’s vehicles, which will have interchangeable components. However, it appearsDisney Speedstormlacks themed carts, which many fans believe is a missed opportunity for IP as imaginative as Disney and Pixar.
Disney Speedstormwill also receive regular seasonal updates, adding new racers, tracks and collectibles. A free-to-play title, the upcoming cart racer looks like it’s trying to giveMario Kart 8 Deluxesome competition. The latest entry in the iconic Nintendo racing franchise is now getting regular seasonal updates of its own, albeit through the paid Booster Course Pass.Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Passincludes 48 tracks released through the end of 2023, meaningDisney Speedstormhas some serious ground to cover, although its plethora of material to mine from should make it fairly easy.
With a vast array of characters and locales to choose from, and a unique twist in upgradeable skills and distinct classes,Disney Speedstormmay have the capacity to become the next massively-played free-to-play title.
Disney Speedstormwill be available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
