This is fairly disappointing news for fans who were eagerly awaiting anAlan Wake’s American Nightmareremasterto be a possibility now that the series is in the spotlight again.

Alan Wake’s American Nightmareis a spin-off to theAlan Wakeseries and was originally released in 2012 for Xbox 360 and PC.American Nightmarereceived somewhat positive reviews, mostly praising its storyline, while some critics disliked some aspects of its gameplay. Now, Remedy’s creative director Sam Lake talked about the possibility of a remaster during an interview at the EGX. According to him, fans should not keep their hopes up for anAlan Wake’s American Nightmareremaster. The idea was considered back when the first game in the series was being remastered, but the base technology underlying the game was already so different fromAlan Wakethat it was not seen as a sound business decision by the upper management at Remedy. It makes sense, considering that the original game was considerably more popular than the spin-off.

In the same interview, Sam Lake also talked about another controversy:Alan Wake 2’s decision not to have physical media. Lake explained that the decision was made between Remedy’s management and the game’s publisher and that the plans are set in stone for now, which is another disappointment for fans, as physical releases help game preservation and often become collector’s items.

Unlike a possible remaster ofAmerican Nightmare,Alan Wake 2will see the light of day soon, and Sam Lake’s statements at EGX hinted that the game will offer the lengthiest experience among all of the games Remedy has developed so far. For starters,Alan Wake 2is expected to last for around 20 hours, around twice as much as the original game. Then, during an interview, Lake revealed that there will be “substantial” amounts ofAlan Wake 2free DLC coming up, which will probably increase the playtime even more. Apart from that,Alan Wake 2will have two major paid expansions, named Night Springs and Lake House, which will add even more content to the title.

Alan Wake’s American Nightmareis available for PC and Xbox 360.
