Fans are anxiously waiting forDragon Age 4news, and one of the things they are most curious to know about is the companions. The companions are a huge part of these RPGs, as a lot of writing goes into their characters, developments, and romances. Fans have a lot of hopes riding on the companions, with many hoping for a romanceable dwarf character anda female Qunari.
What is already known is thatDragon Age 4will take players to Tevinter, which is currently undergoing a ton of unrest due to a Qunari invasion and making enemies out of most of Thedas. With that knowledge, it is likely that Dorian will make a reappearance, and there is a strong possibility that the comic character Maevaris could be a companion. In fact, a lot of fans will be disappointed if she is not a companion. She is a transgender Tevinter Magister, and is already connected with beloved characters like Varric and Dorian.

What Is Known About Maevaris So Far
Maevaris was assigned male at birth, but openly lived as a woman at 15-years-old, which caused a scandal in Tevinter. She grew up with her father, Magister Athanir Tilani, who allowed her to live as she wished until he was executed byTevinter’s Imperial Templarsin the Dragon Age. Maevaris believed her father was betrayed by his own allies and had her revenge against them.
She has a reputation in Tevinter of being both feared and respected. She inherited a fortune and her family has a long-standingalliance with dwarves, and she, particularly with Thorold Tethras of Orzammar. In fact, Maevaris and Thorold were an affectionate couple until his death from an accidental fall in Minrathous. It is believed that he was killed by enemies of Maevaris, and she, once again, had revenge against them as she did with the enemies of her father.
In the comics, Maevaris allies herself with Varric, Isabela, and Alistair as they investigate a Magister named Aurelian Titus, who wants to restoreTevinter to its formal glory of ruling over anyone ungifted with magic. During the investigation, Maevaris is imprisoned and tortured by the Magister, but is freed by Varric. They go to the Fade, where she indulges in a dream that she is reunited with Thorold before they kill Titus.
Maevaris takes a very small role inDragon Age: Inquisitionin a war table mission. Players can help her get the Magisterium to publicly condemn the Venatori. There is also a conversation that can be heard in Skyhold from Varric about receiving a letter from her, and it is one of the few he actually plans to read. Her last appearance has been in the bookDragon Age: Tevinter Nights. This time, she has teamed up with Dorian Pavus in trying to gain their influence over Tevinter and change their nation for the better.
The Case For Maevaris In Dragon Age 4
Many fans were disappointed with the lack of Maevariscontent inDragon Age: Inquisition, but things are looking up for her to be very involved inDragon Age 4. Points in favor of her involvement include that the game will definitely take place in Tevinter, and the fact that her latest appearance was in Tevinter with Dorian after the event ofInquisition. It is as though the pieces have fallen into place for her to finally make a physical appearance in-game.
Not only is she a very interesting character, but her transgender identity would also be a welcome addition toDragon Age’sever-expanding diversity of characters.Dragon Age: Inquisitionintroduced its first lesbian, pansexual, and in-game transgender characters. Krem was not a companion and did not have a big role in the game, so BioWare may have partly written him to test the waters beforeintroducing a major transgender character like Maevarius.
One other point in favor of Maevaris possibly having a large role inDragon Age 4isDragon Age’snew Creative Directorand Game Director, John Epler and Corinne Busche. Fans are excited about Epler, not only because he has a long history at BioWare, but also because he has been credited for Iron Bull’s pansexuality. As for Busche, she is a transgender woman and self-proclaimed “Queerosexual Gendermancer” on Twitter. Having a transgender woman as Game Director will no doubt help Maevaris' case as a possible companion and/or even romance.
