Electronic Artsis shutting down the online services for 2012’sKingdoms of Amalur: ReckoningandWarp. For years now,Electronic Artshas clued fans in on when exactly it plans on shutting down the online services for its various video games, so while it’s always sad to see it happen, at least fans get advanced notice.
EA’s running list of games it has shut down the online services foror has already shut down the services for is extensive enough to require three web pages. Numerous EA games are expected to have their online services shut down later this year or have already had the plug pulled. One of the highest-profile shutdowns happened this past February, when EA shut down the online services forMedal of Honor,Medal of Honor: Airborne, andMedal of Honor: Warfighter.

TheMedal of Honorgames boast extensive online multiplayer features, so it was especially disappointing for fans to see their services end. Luckily, the latest EA-published games getting their online services canned didn’t have extensive online options anyway.Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoningis primarily a single-player action-RPG, whereasWarpis a single-player puzzle/stealth game. Despite being a single-player game,Kingdoms of Amalurfeatured an online pass that would grant players extra content, whereasWarpfeatured online leaderboards. After May 15, fans can expect the online features for both games across to cease across PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Unlike when theMedal of Honoronline services shut down, it’s unlikely that many fans are going to be too upset aboutKingdoms of Amalur: ReckoningandWarplosing their online services. After all, there’s a newer version ofKingdoms of Amalur: Reckoningavailable to play anyway.Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoningis a remastered versionof the game published by THQ Nordic that even got an extra expansion pack, making it the most fully-featured and complete way to experience it.
As forWarp, the game is notbackward compatible, so it wasn’t playable on newer hardware anyway. This means it’s unlikely that all that many gamers are going to be impacted by having its online services end. Even so, it’s always a sad development whenever any game loses some of its functionality.
EA fans are not out of the woods yet when it comes to games getting their online services shut down in 2023. July 09, 2025 is going to be an especially rough day, as that’s when EA is pulling the plug on the online services forFIFA 18,FIFA 19,FIFA 20,andFIFA 21. Other EA games are scheduled for shutdowns this year as well, so fans of the company’s games will want to keep an eye out.
