The Confessor Class
One of the 10 classes inElden Ringthat will be available for players at launch is the Confessor class. With FromSoftware recently revealing both theConfessor and the Samurai classes forElden Ring, fans are starting to gain a better idea of what the class systems will be like and how they will complement gameplay. The primary function and benefit of class choice inElden Ringis the differing starting equipment and stats that each class offers.
The Confessor class is billed as a “church spy adept at covert operations,” who is “equally adept with a sword as they are with their incantations.” In this way it can be inferred that the Confessor will be a class with many avenues of combat progression and builds, with the ability to be molded over the course of a playthrough to serve one of a large variety of gameplay options effectively.
The Confessor Stats
The Confessor boasts a fairly powerful array of starting skill levels to complement the multitude of combat avenues the class fosters. Most notably, the Confessor starts with an impressive 14 faith, 13 mind, 12 dexterity, and 12 strength. This high level of faith, predictable of a “church spy,” allows for seriously powerful casting incantations to be performed by the Confessor. There are a variety of incantations that are already knownwithinElden Ringand its enhanced RPG elements, ranging from healing spells to producing waves of heavy attack damage. The high mind stat only complements the Confessor’s magical prowess, with the mind stat dictating Focus Point pool and focus-resistance.
The reasonably high level of strength and dexterity available to the Confessor, despite the already strong level of magic-oriented attributes, conveys the versatility of the Confessor. With strength and dexterity determining attack power and the ability to weld more powerful weapons, the Confessor can work equally well as a physical combat class, as well as an incantation-based one. With incantations being a combination of magical abilities fromDark Souls, it’s clear thatFromSoftware is honoring its past titles.
The Confessor Armor
The names and stats of the armor that the Confessor class starts with are currently unknown. However, concept art accompanying the announcement of the class gives an insight as to the aesthetic fans can expect to see with this class. The Confessor seems to have a leather hood and robes covering the top third of his body, as well as sturdy leather armor covering the rest. With therelease ofElden Ringbeing imminent, players do not have to wait long to explore this class for themselves.
The Confessor Weapons
In terms of what weapons the Confessor class will start with, it is known that players will have a Broadsword, Kite Shield, and Finger Seal at their disposal. The heavy Broadsword showcases a proficiency with complex and heavy physical weapons, with the Finger Seal being the tool in which players will be able to cast the powerful aforementioned incantations. The Kite Shield is interesting as it will allow for parrying, a fan-favorite mechanic fromfellow FromSoftware titleSekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
