ThePS Plusgames for June have been officially announced and as has been the plan since the PS5 launched, Sony is offering three games for no additional charge to anyone with the subscription service. While the habit of offering threePS Plusgames every month isn’t really new anymore, the games that are on offer this month stand out from previous offerings for a number of reasons. Sony stayed in the habit of offering two games that can be played on the PS4 and one game that is specifically geared towards the PS5. However, even the PS5 game for June 2021 can be played using a PS4, so people who haven’t bought the most recent console aren’t missing out.
One of the most interesting things aboutJune 2021’s PlayStation Plus titlesis that two of the three are launching on the same day they’re hitting the subscription service. While Sony and Game Pass have been doing this kind of thing more often in the last few months, it’s still notable that not one, but two of the new titles are not only new to PS Plus, but also new to the market in general. Having said that, one of the titles, is something gamers have seen before, just not in this particular format.

Operation Tango Strikes A Chord On June’s PS Plus Offerings
Operation Tangomight be the headliner of the June PS Plus offerings because it’s brand new, and offers a different way to play on the PS5. In fact, this is only the second game of its kind that has hit the PlayStation 5 since the console launched back in November. The title is going to remind some ofIt Takes Two, though the story couldn’t be any different.WhereIt Takes Twofeatures two people put into the bodies of dolls, this is all about a couple of spies trying to complete their mission without getting in each other’s way.
As some might have guessed from the comparison,Operation Tangois a strictly cooperativegame that cannot be played by just one person. Armed with an art style that certainly stands out, the point is indeed to try and pull off a spy mission. Yet another thing that makes it stand out fromIt Takes Two, is that this isn’t a game where players see the same thing. In fact, the point of this one is to call out to a teammate what each person is seeing, in order to solve various puzzles and complete the mission. This is also the game that is specifically meant to be played on the PS5, though the game is also offered on the PS4.
Virtua Fighter 5 Jump Kicks Into The 21st Century and PS Plus
Operation Tangois just one of two games that is officially launching on June 1 and therefore launching on PS Plus on the Sony side.Virtua Fighter 5, of course has been on the market for about 15 years. However,Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown Editionis technically brand new next month.
This game is following in the footsteps of so many other older generation games in the last few years. There isn’t a ton of new content to be had with the Ultimate Showdown Edition, but it does appearthis particular version ofVirtua Fighter 5does soup up some aspects of the original game.
The originalVirtua Fightergame is considered by some in the gaming community as one of the titles that started the craze that gripped this genre in the first place. It’s actually quite impressive that it’s still around. For those who have a real love for that genre, they’ll be able to get their hands on one of thegranddaddies of them all inVirtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown Editionwith no extra charge as long as they already have a PS Plus subscription.

Star Wars Squadrons Wraps Up June PS Plus Offerings
The addition ofStar Wars: Squadronsto the list, first and foremost meant that the rumors that were telling gamers a couple of days ahead of time were spot on when it came to identifying thegames that were in June’s PS Plus offerings. This game is, coincidently, the only one that has been on the market before June 1, at least in its present form.
That doesn’t mean that Sony is offering a very old game on its PS Plus monthly catalog. One of the things that the company has actually gotten quite a bit of praise for, especially since the PS5 launched, is that those offerings have largely been big, relatively new if not brand new games. Considering thatStar Wars: Squadronsis published by EAand tied to one of the most popular IPs in the world, it indeed fits the bill of “big.” That it was released just last fall, means it’s less than 12 months old. That means it fits the bill for “relatively new.”
UnlikeStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order,Squadronsdoesn’t have players taking on the fight for the force. Instead, this game puts players in the shoes of the empire at first, and then eventually the rebel alliance. None of this game takes place outside of a starfighter, other than some of the cut scenes. This is actually the firstStar Warsgame to get released for any of the last few generations of consoles that is focused on sitting in the cockpit of some of the most well-known and recognized starfighters around. That particular concept has been so popular that several former releases have been ported to the current generations of consoles butSquadronsis the first that has actually been developed for modern consoles.
