Fallout 4is going to get a next-gen upgrade in 2023, which will improve the game’s performance and add more features across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. Bethesda is currently in the midst of celebrating the25th anniversary of theFalloutfranchise, and it’s done so by releasing new art featuring familiar characters, releasing fresh content for the online multiplayerFallout 76spin-off game, and more.

The last main series entry in theFalloutfranchise was 2015’sFallout 4, which released to critical acclaim. While perhaps not as fondly remembered asFallout 3orFallout: New Vegas,Fallout 4still has a great deal of fans who have enjoyed exploring its open world, completing its DLC expansions, and otherwise searching every nook and cranny of the game. In 2023,Fallout 4fans will have the opportunity to play the game in a whole new light.

The next-gen update forFallout 4will be available at an undetermined point next year. The update will add a performance mode to the game for players to choose between higher frame rates or higher resolution. Bethesda plans on squashing some ofFallout 4’s lingering bugswith the update as well, though specific ones weren’t named, and fans can also look forward to the incorporation of Creation Club content, ala theSkyrim Anniversary Editionthat released last year. Details on specific Creation Club content coming toFallout 4with the next-gen update are unavailable at the time of this writing. Better yet, theFallout 4next-gen update will be available completely free of charge, so existing owners of the game can upgrade at no extra cost.

Falloutfans will have to wait until next year to learn more about what the game’s next-gen update will entail. However, it should be pointed out that theFallout 4next-gen upgrade isn’t the only newFallouton the horizon. Bethesda’s Todd Howard has confirmed thatFallout 5will be the game the studio makesafter it wraps up on development onThe Elder Scrolls 6, so while fans may have to wait a decade or more to actually play it, they can still look forward to it releasing eventually.

Rumors indicate that there’s even moreFalloutcontent for fans to look forward to in the years ahead. If the rumors are to be believed, there’s apparently been a push at Microsoft to have Obsidian make aFallout: New Vegassequel, but nothing concrete on that front has been confirmed at the time of this writing. Fans can revisit the classics, check out the new content that was recently added toFallout 76, and look forward to playing theFallout 4next-gen update while they wait for more information on brand-newFalloutprojects.
