As Bethesda continues to expandFallout 76, the denizens of Appalachia have been able to explore every nook and corner of this post-apocalyptic corner of West Virginia. However, previous games have shown just how vast the irradiated world ofFalloutis and various factions fighting for control in their corners of the world. Bethesda will take players to one of these corners with its first expedition update sending brave Wastelanders to The Pitt.
Bethesda unveiled itsFallout 76update during the Xbox and Bethesda Games E3 2021 Showcase. While light on details, the expansion will take Wastelanders to the irradiated ruins of Pittsburgh, known simply as The Pitt. Players will get to explore The Pitt in repeatable, story-driven missions, which Bethesda says will be the driving focus behind expeditions updates.

AsFallout 76is set 25 years after the war that left the U.S. an irradiated wasteland, The Pitt may not be the one longtimeFalloutfans remember visiting inFallout 3. Bethesda teased as much in its E3 trailer, showing a Pittsburgh still largely in ruin in the wake of the nuclear war. It’s a far cry from what fans may remember from theFallout 3DLC and instead may give players a glimpse at the first steps taken to rebuild the city into what it would become.
Falloutfans first got their chance to visit The Pitt as part of the aforementionedFallout 3DLC. Released in 2009, the expansion took players to the ruined city dominated by raiders and a former Brotherhood of Steel soldier left for dead in the city. It was up to the players to help free the slaves living under the harsh rule, decide who would rule over The Pitt, and set the city on another path forward.
While revisiting The Pitt may be a surprise, the expedition update was not. Dataminers previously found files inFallout 76teasing expeditions were in the plans at Bethesda to keep growing the online game. However, the leak instead teased that players may be getting torevisit Washington D.C., also known as the Capitol Wasteland, fromFallout 3. The leak contained early assets leading fans to believe Washington D.C. was the likely location, along with story notes that the Brotherhood of Steel would play a driving role in the update.
Fallout 76is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.Expeditions: The Pittis currently scheduled for a 2022 release.
