A new trailer has dropped forSuper Mario 3D World, giving players a more detailed look at the extra content,Bowser’s Fury. With only a month until release, thenew trailer for3D Worldis likely the last look before the game is released. One part of the trailer has caught the internet’s attention in particular, and that is when Mario takes a page fromDragon Balland goes “Super Saiyan.”
Super Mario 3D Worldwas one of the few first-party Wii U titles that had not made the jump to Switch, so when3D Worldwas finally announced for Switch, many fans were excited. With this year being Mario’s 35th anniversary, a number ofMariogames have been brought back for those that missed them the first time around.Super Mario 3D Worldwas long rumored to be getting such treatment.

In today’s trailer, the big reveal is how theBowser’s Furyadditional content will play. Unlike the main3D Worldapproach which features linear levels,Bowser’s Furyfeels more open,perhaps likeSuper Mario Odyssey.But, the transformation at the end of the trailer is lighting up Twitter feeds everywhere. Mario snags a giant Cat Bell power-up, which transforms him into a humongous version of Cat Mario. In the transformation, Mario grows a full mane that spikes up, drawing comparisons to both Goku and Gold Sonic for its “Super Saiyan” qualities.
The reactions were immediate, with fans gravitating to Mario’s new powered-up form. Some merely noted the resemblance, while others quickly crafted fan art for the new Mario. Some fans wondered how Mario learned Goku’s technique, while others imagined Goku deciding to switch places with Mario instead. The gameplay and the reveal of whatBowser’s Furyentails are now secondary to the Super Saiyan Mario.
Super Mario 3D Worldis getting a pretty big marketing push as the game’s release date approaches. Mario 35th anniversary events are still ongoing, but thereveal of a Mario-themed Switch consoleis an exciting development. The console features Mario’s iconic color scheme, a healthy dose of red with some appropriate blue accents. The investment around3D Worldshows that Nintendo is excited to be re-releasing the Wii U classic.
To go along with all of this, Nintendo also has plans tore-release its Bowser and Bowser Jr. AmiibowhenSuper Mario 3D Worlddrops.
Soon players will have the game in hand, and will be able to check out everything going on in the Bowser’s Fury content. Based on reactions online, it looks like fans are more than ready to go Super Saiyan on Bowser in February.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Furywill launch on Nintendo Switch on February 12th.
