As a token of appreciation for reaching a social media milestone,Final Fantasy 16revealed the name of Clive’s trusty chocobo companion for all to see.Tomorrow, April 13 at 2:00 PM Pacific, 5:00 PM Eastern,the next PlayStation State of Play broadcastwill put the focus squarely onFinal Fantasy 16, with over 20 minutes of gameplay footage planned for the show. With inspirations taken from Capcom games such asDevil May Cry 5andDragon’s Dogma, the combat ofFinal Fantasy 16looks to ramp up the action from its predecessors. In between bouts, the world of Valisthea will be explored in open zones comparable toFinal Fantasy 12andFinal Fantasy 14. The name was revealed as a token of gratitude from Square Enix toFinal Fantasyfans for reaching the 100K follower milestone on theFinal Fantasy 16Twitter account. Named after the fabled food of the Greek pantheon, Ambrosia was recentlyshown at PAX East in its idle poses, equipped with a saddle and reins. In a short four-second clip fromFinal Fantasy 16released today, Ambrosia was shown facing the camera at a different angle from the PAX East footage, with a sharp stare in its eyes. Despite appearing ready for battle, It is not clear at the time of writing if Ambrosia will join Clive and Torgal in fights, or if the chocobo will just serve as a mount.

In pastFinal Fantasygames, chocobos have served different purposes, not just as mounts for the main characters to get around the world. The first appearance of a white chocobo was inFinal Fantasy 4, albeit not as a mount. Instead, white chocobos restored MP to the party when caught, and could be found in certain chocobo forests throughout the land. While it remains to be seen where Ambrosia will fare compared tothe best chocobos inFinal Fantasyhistory, fans will not have long to wait to see Clive, Ambrosia, and the rest of the cast in action.

A few weeks ago,Final Fantasy 16went gold three months aheadof its summer release. With the marketing push remaining in full swing, only time will tell how much more Square Enix will show ahead of the game’s imminent release.
