With the next main-series entry in the long-running SRPG franchise set to release next month, Nintendo has given fans plenty of reason to look forward to the game. WhileFire Emblemhas been a staple of Nintendo releases for over three decades, the series has seen a massive boom in international popularity over recent years. 2013’sFire Emblem Awakeningis credited with saving the franchise from cancelation while the most recent release,Fire Emblem: Three Houses, quickly became its best-selling game. Nintendo would officially revealFire EmblemEngageas the next game in the franchise earlier this year with a release date set for January 20th. Now, Nintendo’s newest trailer looks to introduce newcomers to the strategy gameplay.

The newest trailer, roughly translated to “FirstFire Emblem,” takes a tutorial angle toFire Emblem Engage, introducing players to the many elements of aFire Emblemgame. The video shows off many of theFire Emblemfranchise’s core elements, introducing newcomers to some of the game’s cast of characters, unit deployment, and turn-based gameplay. The trailer is heavily geared towards teaching new players about the basic progression of aFire Emblemgame, showcasing leveling, equipment customization, and class changes. Players are also introduced to the franchise’siconic “weapon triangle” combat system.

While Nintendo’s newest glimpse intoFire EmblemEngagewas catered to franchise newcomers, the game has placed a heavy emphasis on appealing to longtime fans. The game’s “Emblem” system has seenfan-favorite characters from pastFire Emblemgameslike Celica and Marth returning to aid players in their battles. The newest game is set to feature the return of several quality-of-life features fromThree Houses, including a rewind system similar to that of the previousFire Emblem. Nintendo has also confirmed paid DLC will follow the release ofEngage, bringing back even more beloved characters.
