Futuramainitially ran on FOX from 1999 to 2003 before being revived by Comedy Central from 2009 to 2013. The animated series follows Philip J. Fry, a pizza delivery boy from 1999 who accidentally becomes cryogenically preserved for 1000 years and wakes up in 2999. Fry takes a job as a delivery boy for the interplanetary delivery company Planet Express, prompting several misadventures with co-workers Turanga Leela (Captain of the Planet Express ship),a surly robot named Bender, and more.

In early 2022,Hulu announced plans to reviveFuturamawith original creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen returning. Hulu has now confirmed theFuturamareboot will premiere on July 24, with the first 10-episode season releasing new entries every week. “New viewers will be able to pick up the series from here, while long-time fans will recognize payoffs to decades-long mysteries – including developments in the epic love story of Fry and Leela, the mysterious contents of Nibbler’s litter box, the secret history of evil Robot Santa, and the whereabouts of Kif and Amy’s tadpoles,” Hulu teased in a statement. “Meanwhile, there’s a whole new pandemic in town as the crew explores the future of vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture, and streaming TV.”

Set to the show’s classic theme, Hulu’s 17-second-long teaser trailer includes quick glimpses of several fan-favoriteFuturamacharacters. “We’re back, baby!” Bender exclaims before shots of Robot Santa Claus, Calculon, “Mom,” Zap Brannigan, and Kif are quickly shown. Of course, originalFuturamacast members Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman reprise their roles from the original series.John DiMaggio also returns as Bender, which was initially questioned until he closed a deal following lengthy negotiations.

While the teaser trailer doesn’t offer much, fans are likely thrilled to see theirfavoriteFuturamacharacters return. Many people believe Hollywood has gone overboard with movie and TV reboots. However, perhaps enough time has passed sinceFuturamalast aired for Groening and Cohen to develop some ingenious stories.
