Talk ofGrand Theft Auto 6has been really hotting up lately. Not that it ever truly died down, but withGTA 5beingone of the highest grossing video games of the decade, fans are eager for the next installment and have been for some time now. Sadly, there may still be a couple of years to wait. But in the meantime, there are plenty of rumors, theories, and leaks, including one which states that an announcement may be on the way soon.
Over on theGTAforums, as reported by PCGamesN,GTA Onlineplayers have spotted a piece of audio that may or may not hint at some forthcoming details aboutGrand Theft Auto 6. Basically, in the game, the radio announcer can be heard saying something about how tropical storms are coming “next week.” It sounds very tenuous at best, but it’s got some people thinking that this could be an Easter egg about the next entry in the series. The fact that it mentions these storms has a few people thinking that this relates to a place that is prone to tropical weather. Vice City, which is based off Miami, is such a place.

As many are probably already aware, it’s been heavily suggested thatGrand Theft Auto 6will be set in Vice City, or at least a more up-to-date version of the location from the classic 2002 installment, which also begins with a tropical storm warning. It should go without saying that the radio announcement inGTA Onlinecould easily be nothing, but it isn’t stopping the rumor mills from churning. Suffice it to say, best to go into this with several thousand grains of salt. If there is some official news aboutGTA 6next week, that’ll be fantastic, but there’s every possibility that this Easter egg means nothing.
While there’s still no word about when the next game will make an appearance, though it could be anywhere between 2023 and 2024, it has been alleged thatGrand Theft Auto 6has been in development since 2014. Again, there’s no real proof of this outside speculations, but if true, this means the developer began working on it in some form one year afterGTA 5.
Alongside these rumors, it also looks as thoughRockstar has been going on a hiring spree. This suggests that development onGTA 6is ramping up, so maybe there will be some announcements soon. No one really knows. All fans can do at this stage is sit tight and wait to see if anything official emerges next week.
Grand Theft Auto 6is currently in development.
