The launch of Rockstar’sGrand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Editionis perhaps one of the roughest experiences for gamers this year, to say the least. It was initially one of the most hyped-up remasters from fans, wherethree classic games from theGTAfranchisewould be packaged into one. Upon release, however, the reception to the game can charitably be described as polarizing at best, and one of the most disliked games of 2021 at worst. This culminated in fans dogpiling on the trilogy for a variety of reasons.
Some of the issues fans take with the game are very common among all the releases of the games. The first of which is the manybugs and glitches that players are experiencing withGrand Theft Auto: The Trilogy. These range from minor graphical hiccups to the worst offenders causing crashes and other major problems. Other issues are with the poorly remastered models, which make characters look rather silly or off-putting. There’s a lot that fans have been frustrated with regarding the release of this game.

It comes as no surprise that this release has resulted in users review-bombing the game on websites like Metacritic. The PC release of theGTA Trilogyis scoring at a 0.6 on the site, while the PS5 version is peaking at a 0.9 score. Other platforms that host the game have also posted similarly low scores, the lowest being 0.5 on the Xbox One and Series X.
There have been no critic reviews yet, with these low scores being posted by at least over 2000 users on each platform. With all of these user scores, it makes it one of theworst scored open-world games on Metacritic, until the critic reviews get posted to the site. Many of these reviews highlight the same issues that fans have had, in that a remaster of PS2-era games should theoretically be easy, but this release is proving to be one of the worst games of the year.
With such a negative reception at launch, some gamers are comparing the release of thisGrand Theft Autogame to a similar open-world game,Cyberpunk 2077. Both games suffered from incredibly buggy launches that garnered similar reactions from fans. While Cyberpunk 2077 is in a somewhat stable state according to the executives, it’s a question of whether the trilogy can do the same. Hopefully, the developers will be able to bring those promised updates to the game sooner rather than later.
