Hades 2may be picking up on some major hints from the first game in more ways than expected. There is bound to be a lot thatHades 2is going to take from its predecessor. Of course, most of the same mechanics are to be expected, especially since the first game became such a major success. This way,Hades 2could end up with a few extra callbacks that could end up making the game stronger.

Seeing as howHades 2is Supergiant’s first sequel, there will naturally be high expectations for the game. InHades 2, the titular god of the dead has been kidnapped by the titan Chronos. Hades' daughter Melinoe is the one tasked with rescuing him from the rampaging titan, although of course, the other gods are capable of lending a hand in their own way. This story is a stark contrast to the original, where Hades played the role of the final boss keeping Zagreus from escaping the underworld. This development shows how far the Chthonic royal family has come since the events ofHades.

Some Hades 2 Characters Bear Resemblances to the Original’s Cast

Hades Could Repeat Persephone’s Run-Ending Role From the Original

Hades' role is important inHades 2’s approach to fatherhood. Hades and Zagreus have a contentious relationship throughoutHades, and the sequel introduces Hades' father Chronos, who has an even more destructive relationship with him.

Since the goal of the game is to rescue Hades, it’s possible that it could replicate Zagreus' conversations with Persephone that happened after each successful run inHadesuntil the true ending. Melinoe could keep reaching Hades and having deeper conversations with him until he is finally freed. This approach to storytelling was an asset to the firstHades, andHades 2could equally benefit from it.

This approach would also keep another tradition from the first game intact in the form of Hades appearing at the end of each run.

Nemesis Could be Hades 2’s Answer to Megaera

Another potential mirror between games could involve one of thenew characters inHades 2, Nemesis. The goddess of retribution appears in-game as a formidable-looking warrior, and in the short appearance she has made so far, she feels like she may give off a similar vibe to Megaera,Hades' first boss, eventually rotating the role with her sisters Alecto and Tisiphone. It’s not hard to see Nemesis filling the role of a sparring partner, love interest, or both. As more is revealed about Nemesis, her role should become clearer.

Hecate and Nyx Share a Mentorship Role in Hades and its Sequel

The last character that seems to call back to the past is also one of the most important.Hecate’s role inHades 2looks to be similar to Nyx in the firstHades. Nyx plays a major role in helping Zagreus start his quest to escape from the underworld, and Hecate seems to be a mentor of sorts to Melinoe for her adventure. It helps that they share some aesthetic traits, both having one of the darker, more mystical-looking designs among their respective casts. Since Hecate will probably play a large role inHades 2’s plot, similarities between her and Nyx may be on full display.

Hades 2has a lot to live up to, and it seems like Supergiant remembers what worked in the first game.Hades 2doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel, especially with such a successful formula. Of course, even if many characters play similar roles to those from the first game they will still need something to make them unique and memorable. With any luck,Hades 2will prove to be a mirror of the first game in quality as well.
