When people think of Valve, they often picture its PC gaming platform Steam. With the software dominating the games market, particularly in terms ofSteam’s concurrent users, it’s understandable that some may not have considered the developer’s roots. For example, its breakout gameHalf-Life, Steam’s landmark in FPS creation that is still a fan favorite after all these years. And now a new mod is allegedly close to being finished after years of being in development.
According to PCGamesN a mod forHalf-LifecalledDeltahas been in the works since the early 2010s, but it now may be close to being finished. However, it’s perhaps unfair to simply call it a mod. The add-on is more like a spinoff, which contains 30 stages across four campaigns and features a host of new content, such as custom-made weapons, sounds, models, and more. The developer has even released a trailer for it showcasing some ofDelta’s gameplay footage.

Half-Life: Deltais just one of many ways that fans of the series are helping to keep the game alive. The recentfan remakeBlack Mesahas been receiving a lot of praise, having spent around 16 years in development. While the latter brings the game into the modern age with a complete rebuild using up-to-date development prowess,Deltaseems more like a classic recall to the original, with it seemingly being built in the original engine and, therefore, mirroring the originals game’s aesthetic.
The aforementionedDeltafootage will likely spark a feeling of nostalgia for people watching. With the footage recapturing the look and feel of the original game, it’s perhaps understated just how muchHalf-Lifecontinues to inspire a whole host of gamesmore than twenty years later. With the mod looking just like the original game, it seems to harbor back to the old days of PC gaming, but its modern sleekness hopefully brings it to the fore for modern gaming.
It perhaps goes without saying thatHalf-Lifehas been crossing some fan’s minds recently. With the VR gameHalf-LifeAlyxreceiving high scores but the ending leaving things open for more, it’s clear the story is not complete and Valve needs to look at new official additions to the franchise. This may be time to start talking aboutthe potential forHalf Life 3again. But for now,Deltaand other mods will continue to breathe new life into the series until the developer says something about a possible threequel.
