Halocosmetics have always been a great way for players to express themselves while engaging in deathmatches and the like, andHalo Infinitehas kept the tradition of fully customizable Spartans alive for newcomers andHaloveterans alike. WhileHalo Infinite’s battle pass has been controversialamong the community, one item new to the series is available to anyone who’s reached the pass’s 50th level, and fans love it: the kill effect.

Kill effects are cosmetics that flash over a downed Spartan’s body once a player with one equipped kills them. It’s a flashy way for a player to leave their mark on an opponent and its place at the halfway point ofHalo Infinite’s battle pass means that anyone who has a kill effect has the skill to back up such a bold cosmetic or, at the very least, has put a good amount of time intoHalo Infiniteto earn it. Unfortunately, at the current time of writing, there’s only one effect available, meaning that anyone looking for their own personalized mark of death is out of luck; however, the available Judgement Phoenix effect is still cool enough to tide players over until 343 Industries adds more to the game.

How to Equip Kill Effects in Halo Infinite

WhileHalo Infinite’s matchmakingis a relatively straightforward process, oftentimes finding the cosmetic items that players have unlocked isn’t. When switching over to the “customize” tab at the top of the screen, players are met with five different options for customization. Because most of the battle pass' items end up in the Armor Hall, players might be tempted to start looking in there for their newly acquired kill effect, but it actually resides in the Weapons Bench tab.

As it turns out, kill effects need to be applied to each individual weapon in the Weapons Bench. To equip one, select a weapon, then scroll to the right and select “kill effect” represented in the UI boxes with two crossing bones. From there, select the desired effect and then equip it. Unfortunately, players will need to do that for each of the firearms in the Weapons Bench, and it’s worth noting that kill effects can’t be equipped toall ofHalo Infinite’s weapons, only the UNSC one. It’s also important to note that kill effects can’t be used if the player has a weapon kit equipped.

Halo Infiniteis available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
