Pilestedt has now once again taken to social media to share the game’s updated sales figures. He did so indirectly, by validating one fan’s speculation thatHelldivers 2sold “almost 3 million” copies with a telling selection of emoji. The casual exchange happened on February 25, 17 days since the game’s release, indicating thatHelldivers2has so far averaged roughly 1 million sales per week. While no breakdown of the game’s commercial performance by platform has been shared to date, its ongoing success has so far appeared to be somewhat evenly distributed. Specifically,Helldivers 2managed to outperformCall of DutyandFortniteon the PS5while simultaneously dominating Steam’s Top Sellers chart.
The other side of this ongoing success story is that Arrowhead found itself scrambling to keep the game’s servers online up until just recently. The overwhelming demand resulted in never-ending queues and connection issues, with some players struggling to even launch the shooter, never mind get into a match. This led to plenty of frustrations and consequentlytankedHelldivers 2Steam user reviews, which dropped from “Very Positive” to “Mixed” in mid-February.

One week and some 20,000 additional scores later, the game’s Steam ratings have mostly recovered, as they currently sit above the “Mostly Positive” threshold. This development appears to be a direct result of the fact thatHelldivers 2has been treated to several server cap increasesin recent days, which have mostly eradicated its waiting queues.
Aside from tackling one server issue after another, Arrowhead has also been hard at work putting out bug fixes for its hit game throughout the month. This, combined with Pilestedt’s efforts to personally address countless fan grievances on social media, appears to have bought the developer a lot of goodwill among consumers. WhereHelldivers 2goes from here remains to be seen, but its current sales momentum certainly bodes well for the game’s chances of maintaining a healthy player community in the long term.
