A Merlin Trial was completely ruined inHogwarts Legacydue to a surprising glitch. While a lot of these tiny stumbles in a game’s code can cause hours of laughter, they can just as much make a player want to rip their hair out, and this particular glitch proved to cast a shadow on the entireHogwarts Legacyplaythrough.
Merlin Trials are afun extra activity inHogwarts Legacy, adding a bit more puzzle-solving to the gaming experience. On top of that, the more a player solves the larger their inventory space becomes, so even if someone is not a huge fan of puzzles, it’s worth taking the time to figure them out. There are 9 different types of Merlin Trials out there in the Scottish countryside surrounding Hogwarts. One of them has a fairly simple concept. The player needs to find a large stone ball and then guide it to a hole in the ground that’s a bit further away. The ball, at times, can be a little unruly depending on the terrain, but it’s probably one of the easiest Merlin Trials.

However, a glitch can make even the easiest task into a nightmare scenario. In this case, adictinq, the player who uploaded the video to TikTok, was guiding said stone ball down a steep hill, but sadly even one moment’s slip was enough for it to get loose and start tumbling downwards with increasing speed. This wouldn’t necessarily be a problem in itself, the ball would eventually be stopped by some kind of object, but thanks to the glitch, something very different happened. The ball collided with a short piece of a wooden fence, and as if it was a pinball, it shot straight up into the sky only then to land in Black Lake. To make matters worse, the ball didn’t even respawn, ruining adictinq’s100% playthrough ofHogwarts Legacy.
The commenters, as always, were more than happy to criticize but also to offer helpful tips. Of course, reloading an earlier save was the first thought for most. But according to another player, who had somethingsimilar happen to them inHogwarts Legacy, the issue can be solved by just starting a different side quest, and once the player returns to the Merlin Trial, the stone ball will be there once again.
While watching a huge stone ball get out of control is hilarious for everyone else, it must be incrediblyinfuriating for the one playingHogwarts Legacy. The only other solutions now are to load up an earlier save and hope the glitch didn’t affect the ball somehow there as well or return to it later as it was suggested. Otherwise, the thought of having to start a completely new playthrough just because of a glitch like that would likely make many rage-quit for at least a day or two.
