PlayStation 5 has a whole category of upcoming sequels that players are very excited about. Fans of one of the most anticipated,Horizon Forbidden West, received a brand new look at some in-game action. Today, Guerrilla Games release new footage ofHorizon Forbidden Weston Twitter, while the official PlayStation Blog gave fans some all-new key elements and mechanics coming to the game.

The game world itself is more accommodating to player freedom in its exploration and traversal, and withmany new aspects of Aloy’s improvements, Guerrilla Games is attempting to evolveHorizon Forbidden West’s combat as well. New weapons, upgrades, and skills will help Aloy tackle the expanded variety of enemy encounters in the dangerous West. Aloy’s main mode of combat inHorizon Zero Dawnwas using ranged weaponry, most commonly bows. This will, of course, be a returning emphasis inHorizon Forbidden West, but there will supposedly be a greater number of equipment options, including new weapons and armor, with the ability to upgrade both.

Horizon Forbidden West’s combat mechanics will be supported by a revamped skill tree. There will be many returning abilities fromHorizon Zero Dawn’s RPG-like mechanics, but withgreater emphasis on melee combat. Guerrilla Games seems to hope that these new approaches to combat will be engagingly utilized through the game’s more varied combat encounters, which will include more complicated fights against both humans and machines.

Many of Aloy’s tools fromHorizon Zero Dawnwill make their return. The new PlayStation Blog post specifically mentions that the Hunter Bow, Sharpshooter Bow, and Blast Sling will all make their return. While these weapons are expected to have all or most of their previous capabilities, they will also come with some new upgrades, such as ammo types. More excitingly, though,Forbidden Westwill bring entirely new weapons to Aloy’s arsenal. One that has been prominently featured in promotional material thus far is the Spike Thrower. This thrown weapon, designed by the Oseram tribe, will deal heavy damage by launching explosive javelins into enemies.

Players will also be able to craft to make weapons and armor stronger in a number of ways by unlocking new perks, increasing the number of mod slots, and learning new skills. One of the new skills is called the Resonator Blast, which gives Aloy’s consecutive melee strikes built up power, which is then placed on an enemy, to be detonated by shooting it with a projectile. The blog also showed off Aloy’s new traversal tools, like the Pullcaster, a grappling hook, and the Shieldwing glider, aBreath of the Wild-esque glider.

The PlayStation Blog post showed off new robot-dinos that Aloy will take on, new moves and tools to bypass some of the challenges, beautiful landscapes, and more. Additionally, the blog post makes mention of the skills onForbidden West’s tree working tandem with outfits. This seems to imply that some skills are only available by wearing certain clothing and that upgrading armor will also bolster the effectiveness of its associated skill.
